I call it ... Cupcake.

With a dollop.

It's not easy to garden, farm, put up fences, or just walk two feet without tripping around here. Rocks, rocks and more rocks. It's no wonder there are two gravel pits down the road. The Lithuanian Lawn Guy finally had had it with a couple of bigger ones that come up and bite his mower blades every week. Of course, I (helpfully) suggested he not scalp the lawn and raise the blade an inch or so. A baleful look was pointed in my direction. And, heck. What do I care, really? At least I don't have to mow it!

Instead, I (again, helpfully) directed the placement of two rocks to form ... a cupcake. I am sure that most of my neighbors and town residents (not to mention the Lithuanian Lawn Guy) get one of 'those' looks, when discussing me. Just wait until I become that wacky old lady at the end of the road with goats in her kitchen and cats in her (dresser) drawers. Just wait.

(Take a deep breath, Sylvie. I was just kidding. I think.)

Oh sing it, sister! It's rock city here as well. Can't dig an inch without hitting one--usually a big one, too. It makes planting um...interesting.

Jocelyn - It's a pain, isn't it? I've learned to carry a piece of rebar and a heavy hammer when fencing. I pound a hole first, then pound in my t-posts. Homesteading around here is not for the faint of heart or flabby of muscles.

Many of us can probably relate to gardening (or putting up fences) in soil that is more rock than dirt! We also have lots of areas of ledge rock. Great, huge, flattish areas of rock that are about 6" under the surface and stretch many, many feet in all directions. Ain't no way to move that.

P.S. There are worse things to have in your kitchen and drawers than goats and cats. ;o}

Mama Pea - It's no wonder we are a hearty bunch! Best thing I ever invested in was a post pounder. Took a while to be able to heft it around, but I love it.

I'm afraid to ask - what IS worse than having goats and cats in your kitchen/drawers....?

Susan,

Lucky you don't have to mow. I mow and I've hit tree stumps. The landlord removed trees on the property before we moved it and they stick out at the same length of the grass. I've ruined a blade and damaged another. Hubby and I need to dig out the stumps to make life easier on us.

I like your cupcake it makes your lawn man appreciate you more, lol

Have I said a word about the turkeys or Norman?.....nada, not a peep.
Maybe the Buddhist in you is coming out with the rock scupture :)

Sandy - Tree stumps are the worst! And good luck digging them out. I would much rather wrestle with my rocks. Yes, I think it brings out my artistic side... :)

Sylvie - That's only because you've got other things on your mind... :)

We have so many rocks here, we build houses with them.
I had to chuckle one day when a gal from Indiana was up here looking at my garden. ALL the paths are edged in rocks ---the house is stone, there is stone all over--and she says to me "where on EARTH do you get all that stone?" Just dig, honey!!
LOL!

Ah well, it's always something! Rocks can be quite pretty in their own way :)

Sue - LOL! I always wanted a stone house. Maybe, if I start saving them up now.... :)

LHB - I am always picking up stones. I have a big coffee can full of pretty stones. I have no idea what I will ever do with them...
