Timber!!

Only it was not quite as dramatic as that.

A sad farewell

This was minutes after the first pic

About 20 minutes later

All that's left.  My tree is now
the pile of chippings in the background.

He's such a cutie.  I'd adopt him,
if he didn't already have great
parents.

  3. I probably mentioned it a long time ago, but it had two diseases. One could be treated, but the other was fatal, so to speak. It’s been slowly dying over the last 10 years or so. I decided that it would be safer if it were down, given its proximity to the house.

  5. It is amazing to watch those tree guys work, with all the ropes and gadgets hanging off them. What are you going to do with all those amazing chips?

  7. It's a sad thing to lose a tree but as someone who had not one, but two large trees fall on a house last fall, I'd say you were very wise.

PS: My husband's name is Tim. I call him Tim-ber because he fell for me.

  8. I agree with everyone else....I'm pretty sure there is a blogging rule that says you have to tell the whole story.

  10. Sad that you lost the tree, but very understandable, indeed! It is really amazing to watch these professionals do their work! Nice mulch for sure, especially if you have blueberries!

  12. Mama Pea beat me to the question. Yeah, if it was diseased and dying then best to take it down. Sorry you had to do so, though. Glad to hear you got the other hip replacement on schedule. Take care of yourself meanwhile.

  13. Oh, that's a shame. Always sad to say goodbye to a tree.

  15. When I bought this house some nine years ago, I had to cut down about 30 dead trees in two years and ended up with a lot of stumps. Then out of the blue one day a fellow with a stump grinder doing a nearby job asked if I would be interested in getting my stumps ground out while he was nearby. He made me an offer I couldn't refuse and I'm glad that my lawn has been stump free since. It makes it much easier to mow.

  17. Over 20 years ago when we lived in our townhouse we have THE MOST BEAUTIFUL JAPANESE MAPLE TREE growing in our front yard. Most beautiful tree in the neighborhood. We had a major water leak in our basement that resulted in needed to totally dismantle our small yard of its landscaping so we would run new water lines into the house. I remember that tree being taken down my heavy equipment and my heart broke. To this day I still remember how that felt. I hate to see any tree come down but sometimes is just needs to happen.
