There is nothing so eerie than lying awake and hearing the wind shrieking outside under a full moon. Then you hear things and try to picture what is flying through the air. There were downed trees, there remains a tree/wire situation that doesn't look good, but I have not been able to report it to the utility - needless to say, their lines are busy and none of the automated choices got near what I needed. I am now due for a call-back in 22-32 minutes. My composters are pretty much all over the next county, some hatches were battened better than others, so to speak. There is some tarp damage on the run-in that I knew about - but between the sheets of sideways rain and 60+ mph wind gusts, I had to let it be. Once the wind dies down to 30 mph, I will go out and start repairs. When I went to let the poultry out, I found that 7 of the Jones Family Sparrows had snuck inside and spent a much safer night than their brethren!
This was one humongous storm - and we were very, very lucky. As much as I love the ocean, I am so glad I don't live on the coast. I hope we hear from some of our favorite bloggers (Erin? Carolyn? Jane?) since I know that this was just one of the exciting events Ma Nature had planned for us. And I am glad I moved out of the city! However, no matter what disaster is handed to NYC, the Big Apple rolls up their sleeves, gets busy and gets it done. It reminds me - in more ways than one - of an ant farm.

Glad you came out mostly unscathed from the storm. Not sure if you were asking about me (or if there's another Carolyn out there in blogland), but we're too far inland to have felt any of the storm. Although I'm hoping that we do get some rain out of it. Today is just cool and very foggy.

I'm so glad to hear that you're safe! I'm sitting here watching the news images~unbelievable. I will never complain about the Pacific Northwest rain again!

Glad you are safe, really feel for those that were in harms way. So many that did not evacuate thinking they were safe having to be rescued now. I don't know how anyone with livestock could possibly prepare for something that devasting with only a few days notice. Stay safe, take care.

Here in DE we had oddles of wind and rain but all in all we survived with only 1 hr power loss.
I'm glad to hear the storm didn't hit you to badly. I have a husband trying to get out of Ohio (snowing) and a sister who rode out the storm in Virginia trying to get out back home.

Kim - Thank you! Yes, we were actually pretty lucky, given the track of the storm and being not so far from NYC. I do count my blessings every day.
TL - Yes, the livestock is a big issue for storms, etc. If push came to shove, I would stay with them. I feel totally responsible for their well-being.

Sandy - Oh, boy. They were in two of the worst places to be (other than NYC or NJ). Hope they are home or are on their way.

Sylvie - That is good news! I would guess stencils. I don't have the patience to put that much detail on a pumpkin. I was just channeling nervous energy!

SF - I always err on the side of caution. Water is something I can always use, and my farmer/neighbor's water is so much better than mine anyway - it's a win-win! I'm glad I live where I do; any further south and it would have been much worse.
MamaTea - Thank you! It is a new pumpkin to me - a white one. The awesome thing was that, when I cut the lid, the inside was almost completely hollow already!
Linda - Thanks - once I dragged my sleep-deprived body outside, the clean up went pretty quickly.
We kept power too! I think you are right, it's because we prepped and had water on hand :)
