If money were no object, I would buy hundreds of this book and stand on a street corner and hand them out. That's how much I liked this book. I realize that it pretty much is singing to the choir here, but don't most of us need to have our fundamental beliefs reinforced every now and again? Especially if our beliefs aren't necessarily flowin' with the mainstream, if you know what I mean.
Topic of today's comment: What is the one thing you would do to make the world a better place? Me? I would make it a law that we all MUST be kind to ourselves and each other, and eat more kale. Love, Susan "Pollyanna" e-i-e-i-OMG. (I know, I know, that's two things.)
Congratulations to the winner of the Day #6 giveaway (drum roll): DFW!! Please send your mailing information to me at swomersley at gmail dot com. (All information I receive stays with me and is strictly confidential.)

I think every person should be required to tend to a community garden plot - I can dream, right? If every person was a gardener, I can't imagine we'd have such trouble with wars and terrorism! Plus it encourages real community socialization :)
Oh my gosh! Just decided to check blogland before my next meeting. I can't believe I won! I never win anything. I should have played the lottery this weekend.
Thank you Susan! I'll send you my mailing information.
Even though money doesn't grow on trees, I would try to make sure those less fortunate had food to feed their little ones. There are so many children in our state, let alone the U.S. that are starving.
I would make sure that everyone has access to excellent health care and good fresh food... and that everyone be required to learn to cook from scratch- I do think it should be a required subject in school (much more than they teach now!)
Ok, that's more than one thing but they all go together.
Judy
Well, I wish I could say what my dream is to make the world a better place, but I would be incriminating myself and it really wouldn't be a very nice visual. I'm just pure evil.
But, my non-homicidal wish to make the world a better place? That people would have to be responsible for their own actions. And politicians would be jailed/fined/flogged each and every time they lied.
Now, reading the other comments, I feel like a total douche-bag. So here's my "other, other" wish for a better world:
I wish I could open up a huge fancy animal shelter that specialized in pairing up older, abused or just plain butt-ugly animals with the elderly, poor, abuse victims, etc..
Really, I would. Really.
And, please put me in the proverbial hat for today's drawing!!!
Erin - That's a WONDERFUL idea! Let's get it enacted!!!
DFW - Congratulations! You can thank "Random Integer Selecter" or whatever it's called - Scrappy went on strike after the first day. I will get it in the mail this week. Enjoy!
Sandy - It is criminal how our children and elderly suffer in this country. I second your idea.
Judy - I think that would do a whole lot to reduce the rate of obesity and other related illnesses. And people who feel better are happier!
CR - Are you ABSOLUTELY sure you want to enter this drawing? Positive? Hmmm? Don't worry - my first ten ideas were hardly Pollyanna-ish. It takes me a while to find 'nice'. I would love to have every un-adopted dog/cat find a home and some love. I would hate to think of what my life would be like without my two mutts.
Oh goodness, I want to enter but I cannot think of a single "one thing" at the moment -- the list is soooo long! Add that to the belief that I don't think we are going to get that "better world" here, and it seems pointless to come up with "world-changing" ideas. I can only individually do my part to live my convictions and therefore (hopefully) be an example of a better way to live.
I would release Monsatan's chokehold on our government and turnover some of the horrible laws governing our food.
So many choices....
I would like to see property tax breaks for those who use at least 50% of their in-town "lawn" areas for gardening. This would help people in so many different ways. If you are going to water it anyways you might as well get something back from it! It would cut our cost of food, give a break on taxes, help with unhealthy eating habits and wouldn't it be gorgeous?!?!
Michelle - I think ALL those 'one things' can definitely make a difference. I like to think of it as the ripple effect. High on the list of things that work is definitely living the example you want to set.
TWH - I would vote for that! Let them be personally responsible for all the evils they are spreading in the world. No more hiding behind the government's skirts!
Micah - What an excellent idea! Lower taxes would definitely get the attention of those who otherwise wouldn't go to the trouble.
I would make sure everyone knows where their food REALLY comes from, as opposed to "the grocery store" or "McDonald's." I think people would be more likely to support local agriculture and local farmers that way.
Thanks, Susan, for this wonderful Whambang giveaway series!! :)
It would be mandatory for every kid (starting in kindergarten) to take food gardening and scratch cooking classes until they graduated from high school. Oh, and USDA would not be allowed to be involved in any way, shape or form....yep: It would save the World and we'd all be fit and healthy!
I think if we all love ourselves more, we can extend that to others much more easily...
Wow, how did I miss all this? Great books! We have quite a few of them so the lucky winners will be delighted for sure.
