MacGyver would have been proud.

A little of this, a little of that.  Some leftover lumber from various projects.  A box of bright nails from my beekeeping days.  My dandy little Tomboy hammer.  Measuring twelve times come Tuesday and then measuring once more.

Voila!  Brooder Condo~!  Plus, when it's not a brooder, it will store the bins that store the brooder (and chicken related) supplies.  And I only hit my finger once.

Another reason I am NOT missing my dryer.  My house is small, so I need all the storage space I can get.  These bins will contain garden stuff (row cloth, garden gloves, tools, fertilizers, etc.) and all my brooder supplies when they're not being put into service as a brooder.  I tend to use tubs as they are light, easy to clean and the sides are high enough (at least at the beginning) to keep everyone corralled.  I use those old-fashioned adjustable screens across the top, and put the brooder lights on that - it's close enough to keep them warm and I downscale the light as they get older.  (100 watt/60 watt/40 watt).  Then out they go into the preteen coop.  There, they are gradually introduced (via a screen door) to their future flockmates.  By the time they are old enough to be added into the main flock, they are used to seeing each other and there has been no rough stuff - other than the obligatory peck on the head to let them know where they fall on the pecking order.  So far, so good.

Oooo. I LOVE the stacking brooder boxes. Speaking of brooding, where are you getting the brood and which kind? I'm placing an order from McMurray or Cackle tomorrow and have YET to decide what kinds!!

So you've got little chicks coming? Isn't it too late in the season where you live? (Apparently not, Mama Pea!)

P.S. MacGyver. Hmmm, wonder where he is now? I used to REALLY like MacGyver. (Grin-grin!) What was the actor's name that played him?

Good job on the brooder condo and it will be very handy for storage in between times! :)
I'm sure I would have hit my thumb at least six times. LOL!!

Susan,

I like Brooder Condo Plus you (aka: MacGyver) made. The old MacGyver would have hit his finger about 20 times, the new MacGyver (Susan) only hit her finger a couple of times.

Don't mention lack of space, I have the same problem here.

Carolyn - This will be for 'future' broods, as I need no more egg layers this year. I always order from M. McMurray - always healthy chicks and great customer service. Isn't the variety mind-boggling??

Mama Pea - Yes, indeedy. It IS too late for chicks this year. I am thinking of the future. Richard Dean Anderson (hubba-hubba) played MacGyver. Ah, yes. I remember the series well.

Candy - I tell you, after the first thumb incident, I was very, very careful!

Michelle - I like it because it's not permanent - I can move the whole thing out if I need to. I am assuming that the next person to own the house may actually WANT a dryer. :)

Sandy - Why do they always make laundry rooms so tiny? Of course, my laundry room is also my gardening/tool/brooding/freezer/storage room.

I want one of the old time "mud rooms" that my aunt had, which was almost a third the sixe of the house. She got everything in there including the Laundry stuff!

My new house has a decent size laundry/mudroom/back door area but already feels cramped. I may have to get a brooder. I would like some geese but can't find any birds locally.
