Born out of boredom...and my usual musings...I'm going to do a month (or so) of Thursday's Words. (Are those heads I hear? Dropping on keyboards? Still with me?) And, no, not Wednesday's Words. I am nothing if not contrary.
Colloquialism
col·lo·qui·al·ism (k-lkw--lzm) -- I love that! k-lkw-lzm!
n.
1. Colloquial style or quality.
2. A colloquial expression.
Here's my example - "She's a whistler!" My neighbor uses this on a regular basis and I LOVE it. It could mean anything - other than, of course, someone who whistles. That would be too blase. What examples can you come up with?
p.s. Have you noticed that I never have a Wordless Wednesday? That's because I am not capable of being quiet. If I had just pictures, there would be lengthy, War and Peace captions. Yak, yak, yak.

LOL-I love it that you "yak yak yak". I'm guilty of that myself---but I don't find that BAD thing. Hubby and I travel a lot and we are ALWAYS remembered, whenever we revisit areas because I yak yak yak with whomever we come across. People LIKE to talk........and we like to listen (and talk!!). You wouldn't believe the nice things people have done for us because of that.
So--looking forward to adding a few more words to my repertoire.
: )
Here's a good one. In my part of the country, old timers call Coca Cola "dope." I have no clue where that came from!
Ouch. You're causing my head to hurt this morning. I woke up (finally) two hours after the alarm and now after being vertical for two additional hours, my head is still full of cotton. (No, there was no alcohol involved last night.) I'll be back if I can think of something. Anything. In the meantime, I'm with Sue in that I love it that you yak, yak, yak. Don't stop.
Sue - Ah, the pressure is on! I agree - most people love to talk and along with the yak, yak, yak, good listening is the key.
Leigh - I wonder if it stems from the times when Coca Cola actually WAS dope - didn't it have cocaine or something in the original recipe? Hoo-boy!
Mama Pea - It's all that fresh air and exercise! It will kill you! Or cause you to lie prone much longer than is normal for your usual up-and-at-em self...
What a treat! I found your blog from a search on squash storage - and to my joy found a homesteader's blog, and in our area to boot! We are in VT on the NY border, but a little farther from MA than it sounds like you are. We have been homesteading for 15 years, with cows and kids. I'm looking forward to reading your posts, and reading your past posts.
Thanks, Erin
Erin - Hi! What good news!! Where in VT are you? I'm a little less than a half hour from Bennington. It's always so exciting to find another homesteader!
My step-mother, from extreme Northern MN, has a couple of phrases that I love and have never heard anyone but her use. One is "I'd like to drop my teeth!" which usually expresses shock or surprise and the other is "spinning hookers" which means what I would call "doing donuts" or going around in circles. Spinning hookers would mean something entirely different in the places I've lived :)
Around here a lot of people "drive truck" as an occupation.
Susan - We live in Pawlet.
