At least I keep them entertained...

I had to sit in a meeting this morning with our staff, a couple of people from our NYC office and a couple of clients.  As I sat there, I noticed that the people on either side of me - and the people across the conference table from me - and everyone in the room - were subtly sniffing the air.  I realized that they were inhaling my perfume of the day - Eau d'Kopertox (main ingredient:  copper sulfate).  Honestly, I HAD taken a shower AND scrubbed my hands with pumice soap after applying Linden's morning coating.

And, if that was not bad enough, in the middle of the meeting there was the distinct (but slight subdued) baaing of sheep.  Basso sheep, baritone sheep, alto sheep.  I had forgotten to turn off my cell phone.  I just looked around like everyone else.

My boss gave me the hairy eyeball, then tried not to laugh out loud.  There was a lot of muffled snorting from my crew.

Speaking of copper sulfate...

Yesterday morning, my DS, Melanie, gamely showed up to help me apply Linden's initial coating of Kopertox.  This involved rassling the woolly, fat eel into submission and holding him down, while I trimmed his hoof some more, cleaned it up and painted on a liberal coating of Kopertox.  It was not clear after the fact if Linden or I received most of the application.  All I know is, he got enough.  This morning's go-around was slightly easier, as all I had to do was to get my hand around the affected appendage and paint madly, as he did a fast retreat.

And while I was at it, this weekend, I also wormed the three goatie girls.  Another toss up as to who got most of the Safeguard.  I think it was a tie.  They have tiny, tiny little mouths that emit some of the most spectacularly piercing sounds I have ever heard.  Except for Pickles, that is.

ahh eau de kopertox it is distinct! The fun thing about farm smells is we really don't know we have them [after all we do bathe!] until we go somewhere with "civilized smells". I remember standing in line at a grocery store after I had branded calves [the day before] I had cleaned up and got my grocery list etc and headed in to get stocked up. Someone several places back in the line said what is that smell,Someone else made a similar comment. The scent of burned hair and cattle was in the leather of my boots and I had cleaned them! Is the Kopertox helping the hoof?

Fiona - I like to think we have a very distinct aura about us. It is a little early to tell, but the fact that the stuff is waterproof has to help. He has a bad case so it will take a while.

Haha. Recently, a person at work commented that the meeting room smelled "oddly like a barn", just after I walked in one day. "Like manure," she said. I just shrugged my shoulders and said, 'Huh, that's weird." Washed my winter coat that night. :)

I've used copper sulfate for hoof rot before but didn't know there was a specific product to apply. I did the old foot soak (not appreciated by the goat!) Definitely good stuff.

Ha! So glad it was not just me! Somehow you painted my finger as I was wrasslin' Lindy and I STUNK! I showered, no help. I washed a sink full of dishes, no help. I finally banished the smelly digit when I used my mother's herbal (mostly lavender) soap. And I really don't like lavender. Just to show you how desperate I was.....

Ah, Susan...sounds like life has been very...well...ALIVE for you of late. Stinky smells, screaming critters, and all. Sorry for the loss of your neighbor...we've gone through that and it's a sad thing.

We got a dusting of snow again last night. (Take THAT! you people who have been badgering me about what garden have I put in yet. None, fools. HAH.

My wrist is slowly healing, but I still am pretty limited in movement. I'm not the most patient person there is. (Imagine) lol

Buttons - Oh, yes. Interesting is the perfect word... :)

TM - And...? There's something wrong with manure?? It's amazing how used to smells we get.

Leigh - I think, if I had to dip his hoof - there would have been even more of it on me, Melanie and Linden! The paint brush works really well.

Melanie - I KNEW I got you - and you were being all polite and kind and saying, "no"....

Michelle - It would have been a spectacle for sure! He really is like a chubby eel.

Akannie - I love that - Alive! Yes, that it has. You know, I hadn't thought of snow that way. It IS an excuse...HAH. I'm glad your wrist is finally healing - what an ordeal. It's an exercise in frustration, it is.

All I can say, my girl, is that there are a LOT of worse things you could smell like. For instance, most all perfumes lay me out flat. I'm serious. I have a bad allergy to them and can get instantly sick. Aroma of barnyard doesn't bother me a bit.

A couple of months ago I got a big hug from a friend in the library. As she pulled away from me she said, "I just love the way you smell like smoke!" Ummmm, had to think about that for a while. I suppose it is because we heat with wood, but I truly wasn't aware I smelled like a smoked goose.
