An now for news of the New Metal Roof!

(Insert sounds of crickets.)  Yes, that's right, there has been no roofing done.  When I called my roofer a few days before The Day, he was uncharacteristically cagey.  It turned out that, when he originally called me to set up the date, he was looking at AUGUST 6-7.  And jobs had problems and his septic system was only half in.  Sigh.  The new date is this coming Saturday.  You know, the one weekend out of the last fifteen weekends with no rain, that is supposed to rain.  I sure hope I get it on before winter.

In order to divert my angst, I started cleaning out the barn.  I rehomed a partial roll of welded wire fencing, three heated water buckets, a length of ridiculously short electranet fencing, my Victorio saucer, my mini greenhouse, and, lastly, an extra phone.  I also filled the Goodwill container - which will be going this weekend.  I am ON FIRE, people!

I had a houseguest this weekend, who I dragged to the feed store, to the grocery store and through all of my errands.  I did try to do some tourist-y things, but I am afraid I am too distracted to be a hostess with the mostest.  He left a day early, pleading homesickness, but I am still wondering if it was the sight of the manure splattered on my lower legs every morning (the cows at the dairy barn have been acting out....) or could it have been the crunchy towels?  He was a very good sport and took me out to dinner (not to mention supplying me with GF sauerkraut balls and chocolate covered espresso beans!)  I owe him...

Almost 3 cups!

Left with unexpected time on my hands, I made cottage cheese (ala Mama Pea), caught up on my ironing, gave Scrappy a bath, and enjoyed the onset of a cold front - which brought relief from the oppressive humidity and heat we've been having over the last many days.  We also got a half-inch of rain, woohoo!

Don't these people who provide a "service" like roofers, house painters, appliance deliverers, repairmen, etc. just make you want to tear your hair sometimes? I am fully aware the unexpected can come up, but I have a niggling suspicion many times they have no intention of showing up when they say they will show up. Arrrrgh! Keeping my fingers crossed for your roofing job next weekend.

Are you going to share more about your male guest? A relative? A possible romantic interest? A passing stranger you took pity on? You can't just throw that tidbit out on your blog and not expect to pique our interest. (Although if he left early pleading "homesickness" maybe he's not worth thinking about.)

Ha! Our roofer waited until we actually got snow on the underlayment until he came out to put up the metal roof . He said it was my fault for not ordering the color HE wanted. Can you top that? Hopefully, your roofer is a better person than mine was.

Delays---maddening! Hope it finally gets done for ya. I hate dealing with service people. We've been trying to get an electrician since last February.
And a guest that comes bearing goodies (and this is how much of an introvert I am---LEAVES EARLY!!) sounds like a great guest. LOL!

Workers always come and go on their OWN schedules, don't they? Wishing you patience and a new roof!

i have a long list of things that never got done this summer. i made it a point in early spring to tell them it had to be done BEFORE the wedding. they heard wedding and figured i would be too busy to bug the crap out of them.

Mama Pea - I have to say that I really like this roofer, reschedule or not. He is, if nothing else, straight up with me. My guest was an old boyfriend of just-after-high school days - yes, that old... I think that my life sounds much more exciting on my blog than it is in real life...you know, all that literary license and stuff. :)

Tewshooz - What??? Too bad you couldn't have booted his hiney out the door.

Sue - Oh, forget about finding an electrician! The local electrician (the only one who shows up sober, that is) is in so much demand that you have to book months ahead and hope he decides to do the work.

Debra - I can't believe I am doing the NO rain dance...

Jaz - And they would have been right, because boy, howdy, you WERE busy! Now you can line them up and have them toe the line. What are you doing with all this extra time?

My BFF is so not a country girl and I have to be very careful what I inflict on her. She is truly aghast at some of the things I do in the name of agriculture. I hate it when tradespeople go in to shifty eyed, looking at their boots mode. Hope to here the roof is on very soon.
