Postus Interruptus

Lest you think I have sailed off the edge of the world, I have not.  I have been busy - putting the Labor into Labor Day.  I have tons of pix and lots of yada-yada to go with them, but the starch flew out of my sails when I opened my mailbox this morning to put in my Netflix.  I found this:

What the - ?
It is my old friend, iPhone 6 - STOLEN iPhone 6.  It was sitting there.  No note.  No nuthin.  I am not sure how I feel about it.  Relieved?  Alarmed?  Furious?  Should I now believe in aliens?  How did 'they' know it belonged here?  And, yes, it was MY phone - at least it looks like my phone, right down to the nerdy cover.  (Cue creepy music and sound effects.)

Hmm.  Well, looking for the upside, at least I have a back-up!  But it still gives me the willies.  Part one of my retirement test-run will be up and running shortly.

"I have devised a devious scheme which will play out over three days - the result of which: he will be lured into a trap. Right. Wish me luck."

I was starting to wonder if it was playing out like "whatever happened to baby jane?" over there...

It will be interesting to see what photos are on the phone, since that was about the only thing they could use if you stopped service- not many people who steal return items. Could it be a pissed off mom who made a kid return it? and how would they know it yours? Mystery indeed...

Okay, that would be creepy particularly if it was stolen while you were away from home. So, did I miss something? A test run on retirement?

My son informs me you can find out all the owner's info, but the way he explained it makes no sense to me.
People put their life on those things. I won't have one because I would probably lose it and so there goes all my info.
Hope you solve this mystery. It is creepy!!

Do you think you'll ever find out how it got into your mailbox? I think I'm all the more happy now that we are still bona fide dinosaurs and still use only our flip phone. (We barely know how to turn it on and off and use it to make a call, but don't tell anyone.)

Janice, if it involves Norman, the sky's the limit. I have to charge the phone to see if it was used. It is very mysterious.

FFG - It was stolen at a grocery store in VT. I am now looking at every more-than-a-weekend off as retirement testing. My frame of mind has altered.

Sue - I had locks and super locks on it, but anything is possible. I try not to have much 'important' information on the phone, but I tend to rely too heavily on it, no matter my good intentions.

Mama Pea - I wouldn't mind going back to a simpler form of communication. It's easy to get caught up in all this techno stuff (at least for me - but I am drawn to bright, shiny objects...)

A remorseful thief? Someone known to you? The plot thickens!

Spooky. Make sure your doors are locked at night!

Wow. Someone was feeling guilty I think. Glad they returned it.

I've found retirement to be the best thing going. As my son-in-law says, its the best job he's ever had. (He worked hard, saved a lot of money, invested well and has now quit work before the age of 50.) I haven't worked since 1996. I highly recommend it if you can swing it financially.

Are you SURE it was stolen?
