I'm so freakin' happy!

The quail made it through the night!  It hit a low of -15, without factoring in the wind chill (which was -31), which made for a rather sleepless night.  Damn digital remote thermometer.  When I gingerly folded up their wool blanket, I was met by seven pairs of anxious, beady eyes.  I gave them water and checked their food and fluffed all their surrounding blankets.  I will have to get a picture of their polar rig, but it worked.  What a relief.

I'm almost through my last 40 pound bag of bird seed, so will have to pick up another this weekend.  That will make 130 pounds used so far this winter.  The sun is out, so I'm hoping it will get up over zero.  However, the wind chill is still a threat until this afternoon.  The forecast for Sunday is a chance of showers.  We've entered the Twilight Zone.

I can just imagine them all looking up at you! Glad it all worked out. I've been going through a lot of bird seed, too. Now I just dump it right on the snow at the base of the tree. I gets tons of birds (and one fat squirrel). -Jenn

Bet the quail were so glad to see the light of day! (You did provide a small book light in there for them so if boredom set in they could pass the time reading, didn't you?)

We had -26F over night, but NO WIND! Whoopee! Makes all the (good) difference in the world.

For the past several days, we fill the bird feeder on the pole in front of the deck, and the wind blows all the seeds out onto the ground. Our birds are like Jenn's though and gather beneath the feeder and snarf them up there.

Happy to here the Quail are alright! We go thru a lot of bird seed too. It amazes me how much those little birdie's consume in a day! It was 10 below zero with the wind chill. We had 60 mile an hour winds. Don't like the wind, it's sort of scary.

Susan, I know what a huge relief that is! Hopefully you'll catch some of this warming trend(?)

Yay. I heard some people brought their chickens inside their garage and put them in cheap tents.

Hail the mighty quail gods and their earthly protectress, Susan! So happy the little chirpers made it through the worst of it. 130 pounds sounds like a lot. Do they eat that much or is there a lot of waste.
I'm sure a warming trend is welcome right now. Did you see the stuff coming out of Minnesota?
