Armored up and OMGIF!

Who knew tick-proof clothing was a thing!!  Thanks to a link to an article that my sister sent me, my eyes have been opened!  I am now tick-proof up to my knees.  A pair of tick-proof pants are ordered and, once armored up in my tick-proof gear, I can face a trip to the compost pile...
And in my favorite color - nuclear green!
I have also discovered that Cedarcide, a naturally based cedar oil spray, seems to be doing the trick, as far as repelling ticks from the dogs.  I spray it on my hands and rub them all over.  They enjoy the process and we all smell like your sweater drawer.  Woot!

****

I am no longer chortling out the familiar cry - TGIF! - as my Fridays seem to always be challenging.  This week I have had to step in for an admin in the Home Office who has (and much deservedly) taken a few days off.  She is the admin to a Nob.  It's been a very long time since I've had to work with a Nob and I can't say absence makes the heart grow fonder.  But, being the good worker bee that I am (celebrating 20 years of being a good worker bee for more-or-less the same firm, at least 20 years being in the same place), I have starched my upper lip and am holding the hand of, pandering to, and fussing over her Nob.  It's not an easy task for someone who loathes the bourgeoisie class.  Today is my last day of suffering through it and I have a healthy respect for all my colleague is expected to do, bless her.  Of course, the day is not over.

I also found out - to my horror - that a rather pricey order from Chewy.com was sent to the wrong address.  Apparently, instead of using your default delivery address - you know, the one you use EVERY STINKING TIME FOR A YEAR - they automatically ship to the last one used.  Which, in this case, was to a humane society that I donate food to every great while.  Shineola.  Now I have to call them and straighten it out and drive all the way over - a good hour - on my already over-packed Saturday.

THEN, when putting in another layer of cat litter into Slimmie's commode, out slid two mice.  One desiccated and one very much alive.  Slimmie had his head buried in his morning bowl of gravy bits and did not notice it zipping under his chair.  Even though I shrieked like a little girl.

THEN, it rained, which is a good thing, as it is dry as toast out there and I just put in four tomato plants.  It is not good, apparently, to the Little Princess (aka Layla) who refused mightily to finish her business after breakfast.  I am hoping that I don't get a little 'package' on my kitchen floor when I come home tonight.  But my hopes are not high on that score because... OMGIF.

(And added note - for some reason, Blogger no longer sends my comments to be moderated to my email address.  I am sure it has something to do with their perverse efforts to make any interaction between blogger and reader almost impossible.  Therefore, don't despair, your comment may be delayed in being posted, but I will find it! - And all your comments are greatly appreciated...xo)

i've heard that the tick clothes work pretty well. i can't tell you how many packages of mine get delivered to the wrong address. it seems i am constantly having things redelivered. hope you have a good weekend. we are still hotter and humid as hell!

I shall go and read up about Cedarcide right away. I hate using chemical formulations on the animals, but one year we had a BIG flea invasion - nope, not giant fleas - just lots of them. Apparently I am totally irresistible, to fleas. At one point I had close on a hundred flea bites. I never want another experience like that one. Just thinking about it makes me itch. Sorry, rambling now.

I hope your Friday - and the whole weekend - are great.

I am so sorry to hear about your weather! I think we both feel the same way about summer - a necessary evil before you reach fall!!

I know what you mean. I am actually afraid to walk down to the compost, as I have to go through knee-deep invasive plants. I imagine millions of ticks, just waiting for my tender ankles. Cedarcide is supposed to work on both fleas and ticks, so let's hope they live up to the hype. I am just a tad cynical. (I hope your weekend - et al. - is wonderful, too.)

dry here too. the possum that lives under my house takes care of any ticks for me but I do have to watch out for snakes. apparently the flood last August has brought them all forthwith. so sez everybody. I have yet to spy one this year.

You have your wonderful 'armour-plated' socks and pants, I have my knee-high Wellies, we'll both be smelling of sweater drawers and repelling the little blighters! Thanks for the information.

I no longer get my blog comments via e-mail either. Yeah, a little irritating but at least they're showing up in the comment section! (Ooops, maybe I shouldn't have said that out loud, eh?)

Your new anti-tick clothing is fantastic. Papa Pea has a special (not harmful to we humans) spray that he coats our duds with . . . that clothing that we wear when being in danger of tick territory. Supposedly the coating (invisible to the human eye and with only a slight -- not bad odor)lasts through 16 washings. (Can we believe that?)

I have to confess my ignorance . . . what is a Nob? Hope you make it through the day in good shape and have a wonderful weekend!

It's been an intellectual morning – I've learned about tick-proof clothing AND Cedarcide! Oh, and I had to look up what "Nob" means, seeing as I don't swim in those pools. Hugs and hopes for a good weekend for you!

Tick proof clothing!!! Yessss...

Nob???????

Other *random* issues... -sigh-

Yup, comments needing to be vetted, no longer come into mail box. Have to click on Design, and read 'em right on the blog, so to speak.

Actually, I find it easier. Before, I had to check both places, to be sure, I didn't miss any.

Ahhhh the joys of trying to keep in touch, with far flung blog friends!!!

I'm not getting comments to my e-mail via blogger either. It's been about a week or so. Who knew about tick proof clothing! I'm gonna get me some for sure and the cedar spray. Thank you for all the info Susan.
I have multiple critters that put the brakes on in rainy weather, but Mandy is the worst one, hands down. Jack the JRT mix likes to splash in puddles and Spike glories in mud wrestling. Sigh...fine furniture is not in either one of ours future, or rugs.... Hopefully, barring the extra drive to retrieve the Chewy package, you have a wonderful, uneventful and relaxing weekend. Pets and hugs to all!

There was a TV movie years ago about climate change and the end of the world as we know it where the surviving humans had to be covered head to toe to avoid ticks and mosquitoes. Not far fetched it seems. I had a nightmarish secondment working for a group of posh doctors, the obsequiousness required was a misery. I'm pulling for you.

Ticks look to be bad here again this year. Awful last year. We try to be careful of them. Good luck.

Check your settings for comments on Blogger. It may have gotten bumped.

What makes your clothes tick proof? I've always resorted to chemicals sprayed on my pants and ankles along with light colored clothing so I can see those that didn't get the hint. But buying something tick proof out of the package, that actually works, has got my eyes open.

Tick-proof clothing! That's fantastic!

And don't get me started on Blogger's new tinkering that has resulted in no comments appearing in our email accounts! I'm so pissed off about it. Now I have to constantly check my "comments folder" on the dashboard and here's a tip -- check your "spam folder" there too. This morning I found a dozen comments dating from January to now in my spam file and they were all from legitimate bloggers!

I like snakes very much - it's just that they appear so suddenly. I used to see them fairly often in and around the garden. I haven't seen one for years. Which means I will now see one every day.

I haven't been able to find a decent pair of Wellies here. There are Bogs and Muck boots, but they don't last. Cedar is so much more pleasant on the nose than mothballs...

A Nob (in my personal and colorful dictionary) is someone who has a very inflated opinion of their importance to the world in general. That would include about 99% of every layer of government. What is this magic potion of Papa Pea's? It probably is a darn sight cheaper than made-to-order clothing!

I'm looking forward to being able to get out in the sun (well-shaded and screened, of course) and tackling more weeds!

I really don't understand why they insist on making our interactions more difficult. I think they are trying to throw their weight around.

Mr. Butters is the first sausage that actually doesn't mind the rain - unless it is really pouring. Lovey just goes into full wrinkle-brow and looks at me very mournfully. Princess Pea goes rigid and then races for the door. I have totally given up on the idea of fine anything.

I firmly believe that insects will take over the world at some point. Hopefully, long after I am not even a memory. I can put up with the entitled helplessness for three days. But that is my limit.

Susan said...

Thanks for the tip - I will check it. Blogger does seem to go rogue every once in a while.

Susan said...

Ed, the socks and the pants are treated with Permethrin and I got them on Amazon. Nice quality and I'm hoping they hold up for quite few years.

Susan said...

Oy! I will look at the spam folder, although most of the comments are usually in Arabic.

Thanks for mentioning about the comments! It never occured to me to check; I assumed nobody was commenting. Lol

You can call Chewy (great company) and tell them the story. Sometimes a rep will just donate that to the Humane Society and send you a new order. Never hurt to give it a try before you schlep all the way to retrieve.

Goatldi said...

You are dressed for success aren't you? We have a certain amount of ticks, mostly deer in our area. But I don't often find one on person or critters. We have no fleas which I won't argue about.

Odd there about Chewy. They always used to bend over backwards to correct their mistakes. I was saved several times in my four year relationship with them from mistakes I was not responsible for. I wonder if the new apparent lack of good customer service is a result of the sale of the company to Pet Smart? Seems to me since they made the mistake and the food went to a shelter they would be gracious and simply reship another order to you at no charge. Not so?

I've never heard of tick proof clothing, so this is good to know. We have them bad here this year. I make a tick oil to rub all over myself. It's safe for dogs too, although all of ours have moved out now.

Michelle said...

Me, too! I went back and looked at my last three posts and found comments that were never emailed to me!

Ed said...

Okay that makes since. Permethrin is what I spray on mine too.
