When Life Gives You Lemons,

it stinks.  *This is a Whine Alert - you have been warned!*  Last Friday, the woman I work with (and have for 14 years) told me she had accepted another job offer and would be leaving in two weeks.  This is a bad thing.  There are only four of us in the office and she is the only attorney.  AND, most importantly, she is the only reason I can stand my job.   I can only see three options, now that we're down to three people and two of them are administrative:  close the office; hire someone to come lead this outpost (can't see a line forming...); or merge our office with another small firm.

Then I went to the podiatrist - where I had checked (I thought) my new coverage with my new health insurance company.  I was informed after the doc had seen me that, since I wasn't diabetic and I wasn't ill - only my initial visit would be covered.  From now on, I would be on my own.  Hmmm.  Maybe I should have known this before the x-rays??

I have been planning a short, but much-needed vacation to visit Sylvia in Maine.  My sister is my homestead-sitter and we had gone over the logistics ad nauseum.  She went off on vacation and, being the nervous type, I emailed her 100 times to make sure everything was hunky-dorey.  Sunday, she called me to tell me she could no longer do it - they had changed her schedule, since she hadn't formally asked for the time off, she didn't get it.

There, I'm done whining.  After a bumpy holiday weekend, I have finally made my peace with the fact that there are things in my life over which I have no control.

On the upside of the weekend, I got to spend a lot of quality time with my favorite beekeeper and road trip partner, Marianne.  She managed to last through six, 12-hour days at the local county fair.  I discovered that being GF keeps me healthier - I was only able to eat a baked potato and it was good!  We both make sure that we buy our food from what Marianne calls the "wooden" buildings.  Those are the locals.  My delicious potato came from the nice ladies at the Methodist Church.

Well crap and double crap. Well you have all three of your 'comes in three's' so it must be time for your luck to change to good. After all, wives tales are never wrong :)

Jane - My sentiments exactly! I do hope you are right. Got to love those old wives...

I agree w/Jane. When it rains it pours. It is bound to change for the better cause ... it can't get much worse. I live by wives tales much of the time - lol.

Hang in there and hopefully you will still have a job, or better yet maybe something will magically appear and be closer to home. I used to commute 45 minutes one way, now I don't even want to get in the truck to go to the store.

Oosh. Yup, you definitely got your 'three'. Hopefully something miraculous will occur on the job front. So sorry about the insurance mess (I promise, I won't get on my soapbox about insurance!) and about the vacation fiasco. If I was closer, I'd homestead-sit for you.

Aw crickey, Susan! What the heck?? Do keep us up to date on the job situation . . . yuck, talk about intruding on your life. I'm betting Sylvia is so, so disappointed you aren't going to be able to go see her right now. And you're disappointed and all the rest of us are disappointed because we all love you. There. Did you feel it? It was a BIG group hug!

Don't even get me started on health insurance. That is such a racket that it's down right despicable. And dishonest. And faudulent. Grrrrr.

DFW - Sometimes there seems to be no other way to live, other than by wives tales, LOL!

TL - That's how I feel on weekends - you'd need dynamite to get me off the place. Well, for at least ONE day a week.

Judy - Oh, I'd be right next to you (and Mama Pea) on that soapbox. You are so sweet to offer your five minutes of free time a day to me...heehee.

Susan said...

Mama Pea - Yes, it was sure disappointing. But it may be possible to have a longer stay now - I've lined up (I hope) someone who will be able to stay longer! What would I do without you all? I did feel that hug, and I feel so much better.

Methinks we'd need a pretty large soapbox when we all get on there and give our views of the disaster that is this country's health care industry.

Yep, do your part and be proactive and preventative in your health the way it "should be" and you are penalized. Go ahead and go years without seeing a doctor and then hobble in there obese and half dead and suck the system dry and the health care system scolds you. Ugh.

Sorry to hear it's raining frustrations over there. I've spoken with my doctor's billing people before (dermatology) and if they coded things a little differently, it made a big difference in what the insurance would cover. Something along the lines of, "well, we don't know for sure that this thing you want removed because it bugs you is benign or not, so we'll treat it like it might be". If that makes sense. Maybe they can recode it.

I did read your post from today and am glad you found something to perk you up a bit.

Erin - Every single other person in that waiting room was obese. I am sure the diabetes resulting from their weight led them through that door. Me? Callouses. Too much walking on rocks, I think...

Linda - You're lucky that you can reason with them. I've tried that here and no dice. I'll just take care of my 'own' self and to heck with them.

Someone has to move over on the health care system soapbox so I can get up there too! I just got an increase notice on mine and I have NEVER.EVER.USED.IT!!
I hope the job situation works out and all your "threes" are over!
