Pucker up!

This may be the best year yet for my Meyer Lemon crop!  I took six off the tree and there are -- 24 -- left!!!!!  I "heart" my Meyer Lemon Tree!  Of course, I will be faced with 30 lovely lemons all within a week or so - oh, poor me...

This tree is about four years old - I've had it for about three years.  Pretty soon I will have to re-pot it, as most of the nutrients in the soil will have been used up.  I water it once week, keep it in a sunny spot (it has its own light starting in January) and feed it an organic citrus fertilizer approximately once a month.  I measure out the fertilizer the same way I measure when I cook - randomly.  As soon as the weather warms up and there's no chance of frost, out she goes.

Can someone tell me why this refuses to right itself?

Poor baby can hardly hold its head up.

I foresee lemon curd, candied lemon peel, frozen lemon juice....loverly.

I've been wanting to try one of those but fear I'll kill it off when it comes time to bring it in for the winter. Boy, those lemons look nice. I'd have to invite "the boy" up for a trip from Mesa for Wienerschnitzel (I'm not a-gonna brag, but I make a GREAT Wienerschnitzel!!) Oh, that's bragging. Oh well. Just this once!
:D

And I have dibs on a few of the seeds...

I don't much care for lemons (even in the form of pie), but I do admit to liking the idea of growing a citrus fruit so far up north like you are. Do they make Meyer "Orange" trees?? Now THAT I would take the time to take care of.

This might help with the picture rotation :-)

Those are some nice looking lemons Susan! They'll make for great lemon curd, candied lemon peel, lemonade and lemon juice.
Save your seeds for planting next go round.

Sue - I am death to most houseplants, so I was worried about the same thing. But I've managed to keep it going! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Wienerschnitzel! Call me when it's ready!

Melanie - I will save some for you.

Carolyn - I know there are miniature orange trees out there somewhere. And, you don't like lemons??? Must be because you are so darn sweet.... :)

Elnini - Thank you for the link! I will give it a try.

Sandy - I am very fond of lemon curd - now all I need are for my chickens to get back to laying eggs!

DFW - I'll have to do a tally; maybe even with pictures that don't defy the laws of gravity!

Michelle - I bet you could grow them year-round in your neck of the woods. They are supposed to do well down to 25 degrees F.

Well, we're not doing very well with the "house tomatoes" and the "house basil" died. We don't get enough light here, and keep our house pretty cool (and it DOES get below 25 degrees here at times). So I count on getting fresh citrus from my MIL when she comes to visit; next best thing!

I'd love to try a lemon tree - how heavy is the pot? Or do you have it on a rolling stand?

Susan said...

Jenyfer - The pot is large and heavy - it's a glazed ceramic pot. I do have it on a rolling stand, which helps a great deal. All I have to do in the spring/fall is heave it in/out of the sliding glass door, then back onto it's stand and roll it.

What a lovely tree! It must be very, very happy living with you!! :)
I made a lemon vinaigrette last night for our salad. I don't "do" vinaigrettes often opting instead for some sort of mayo-y type dressing. Well...I WILL do more vinaigrettes now, especially the lemon!! Another use for your lovely lemons!

Yum. I just bought some Meyer's lemon curd from a coworker. It is fantastic. Happy lemon-recipe-hunting!

What a beauty! My lemon tree is in a sad, semi-neglected state. I did just put it in a sunnier spot, and sprung for some organic fertilizer, too. I think they really must need the fertilizer - using compost alone, I've only ever had about 3 lemons. 3 lemons a year is definitely not enough ;)
