Monday Musings.

I was getting ready to don my favorite shirt, when I took a good, long look at it.  I have had this particular white terry-cloth pullover for years.  I'm going to say at least 15.  I realized that it has changed quite a bit from the day I first bought it.  It has evolved from just a casual pullover that I could bleach when it got dirty, to, well, shabby-chic.  Then I thought, isn't that just like us growing older?  Honestly, I could not be called "chic".  I could, however, be called shabby on weekends.  But who in their right mind dons clean, ironed, stain-free clothes to muck out a barn?  (And don't say Martha Stewart, because she doesn't muck anything!  She has minions for that.)  And who wants to change their clothes three/four times a day?  That means more laundry, which means more water used, more electricity used, laundry detergent, time, etc.  And we are all too frugal for that, aren't we??

But back to my original thought.  I am very happy about how this shirt has turned out.  Those "ruffles" were not ruffles from the beginning.  It has evolved over years of wearing, washing and drying.  Those plain, boring trim pieces have softened and curled.  I like to think that we all soften and curl as we age - and that's a good thing.  Plain becomes artful.  Age brings beauty.  It's all very nice.

It's obvious I need another cup of coffee.

Your pullover looks comfy. It has held up very well for it's age. I wish I could say that about myself. I morphed some ruffles too and ah tad shabby. Jist say'in ;-)

Nancy - I think ruffles are becoming on EVERYone!

Erin - I'll have to get used to your new photo identity! I think that pullover looks better every year. I hope it lasts another 15! Cripe, I hope "I" do!

See I looked at that picture first and thought how cute that it had all those ruffles by design. But I think I would like to pass on all and any ruffles that may appear on me as a result of this aging thing. I just dont think 'laugh ruffles' and 'crows ruffles' go with my outfit ;)

"Age brings beauty." I'll drink to that!

P.S. I have a kelly green turtleneck (just TRY to get it away from me) that I wear at least once a week from October through April every year and I'm pretty sure it's 25 years old. No ruffles but there are spots that are getting close to see-thru.

Nah, you don't need another cup of coffee! I like that I have softened and curled and hope that age has brought me beauty! :)

Jane - I wonder if we could market "Ruffle Cream"?

Mama Pea - Cheers! A woman I work with said she threw out two white cashmere sweaters because they were a little thin. I almost cried. Talk about the perfect homestead long undies!

Candy - From what I've seen, it has!

I want minions... but, seriously I have a old blue tank top that I love. I got it used from somewhere about 10 years ago. It's got holes in the tummy area, and the neck and arm holes are wearing. It's my favorite! I wash it and dry it myself so the daughter doesn't toss it. She's threatened, but I point out I don't wear it to town.
