When did 'they' start naming winter storms? I really, honestly, would like to take most members of the media and drop kick them off the fiscal cliff (along with ALL of the members of Congress).
It has been another interesting year here, at Little Lucky Farm.
2012 was a veritable roller coaster. There were some firsts (Ratz, Guineas, 500 posts!), some hellos (Apria) and goodbyes (Flora), some bon voyages (Sylvie). But, what I am reflecting on the most is that it was not a happy year, not a satisfying year.
So, move over 2012! 2013 is going to be the Year of Happiness! As I type this, I am sitting in front of the computer wearing my dad's cast off work coveralls - he's shrunk down to a twig, so I (being his only son, heehee) inherited the coveralls. The pants are rolled up six times, as are the sleeves. The crotch is about two inches higher than my knees (how DO those kids navigate with their pants around their knees? Can anyone tell me?). I have been mending and taping the living room walls, building fires in the fireplace (and not seeing much of Bernie), picking out paint colors, and gearing up to rip up the living room carpet. I am having fun! And I am actually photographing the process, so stay tuned.
In looking back, I realized that the entire year had gone by without a blip in my happiness meter. Well, one large blip, but overall, flat as a pancake. I have been sitting on the LLF waiting for happiness to arrive with enough suitcases packed for a lifetime. It ain't going to happen. There are, be in no doubt, a lot of things here that make my heart sing - the glorious nature that surrounds me, my dogs, my cats, my sheep, my llama, my chickens. The jury is still out on the Guineas. I have dear, good friends. But mostly, I live a solitary life. I don't think this is going to change anytime soon, so it's time to take action. Besides, I am not getting any younger and I want to make sure my happiness meter is pinging away.
I like to keep my resolutions vague - but I'd like to keep this one. Any resolutions you'd like to share?

Rather than resolutions, I like to set goals. And yes I have a few big goals I would like to accomplish this year, like I HAVE to get a new chicken coop built. There is beginning to be more rat holes than walls in there and I am thinking those fowl just would not make good house pets. And I also am going to get out and visit some fluffy sheep this year. I am exercising my petting hand right now just to get into shape for the occasion. I am hoping for great things in 2013.
I am wishing you a much better year. I hope you receive more joy and happiness you know what to do with. Happy 2013 :)
I also note there was no mention of Chickie in your farm rundown. Is he on the outs? Is he on the naughty list?
I don't make resolutions,i can never seem to keep them. What I am making a list of things I want to get done this year. The big one is get rid of stuff we don't need or use anymore. The other is setting a goals and time frames and sticking to it.
Good for you on making the commitment to be happy. There's not a whole lot we can control in this life, but our attitude is a choice.
BTW, can I stand beside you and help drop kick all them media peeps over the cliff? The faster we get it done, the faster we can move on. Happy NY, Susan!
Read my blog:) Find what works and let go of the rest...
I don't really make resolutions either - I too like to set goals. I usually set more goals than it is realistic to achieve but that's another matter altogether!
2012 was a better year for me and my family than 2011 (my mom died the end of 2010 and then my family was unexpectedly uprooted from our home in Cairo in Jan 2011 for nearly a year of limbo) and I'm hoping to continue an upward trend in 2013. I do believe we can be authors of our own happiness and find it where we will, whether in the big or the small. So here's to finding happiness in 2013!
My goal, not a resolution is we all find happiness in the year 2013. I've also decided to live my life to it's fullest, and to stop living my life for others in my family (in other words, the hard earned money in our pay checks will go to my husband, and my needs, not our grown ADULT children).
Happy New Year Susan :-)
So, I'm curious: what will the "time to take action" entail? Quite honestly, you give no impression to all of us other than you ARE a happy, fulfilled person . . . so you must already be doin' SOMETHING right! :) As I like to say, 'Fake It Until You Make It'!
You have a very admirable goal and I agree with Tami, 'bout the only thing we CAN control in life is our attitude. I think I need to work on mine...
Our local radio station yesterday was "unmanned" and they said it was so all the DJs could go find a politician and throw them off the fiscal cliff, I howled with laughter!!
Happy New Year Susan to you and all of LLF!! :)
Jane - I hope your year is wicked good, as my niece would say. You have had quite a schlep through this past one - it will only be better. I happen to know of some very 'fluffy' sheep who would be thrilled to their hooves with some petting....
Good gawd! How could I forget the squirts?! Well, I am a year older. That's my defense.
Michelle - Lists are always the best! And the top two items on yours are great. I need to do both as well. Maybe we can back each other up!
Tami - Yes! Between the two of us, we can unload the lot of them in record time...
Attitude can make a world of difference, even in how we navigate those things we can't control. Happy New Year to you, too!!
Nancy - I'm headed over...
Jenyfer - I hope we both find bucket-fuls! You've had quite the couple of years, and I can't get over how quickly you've grabbed the reins and gotten your life set back up. I imagine it's been a godsend for your kids. Have a wonderful 2013!
Sandy - Good for you! I imagine it's not an easy choice all the time, but you deserve the best. I hope you have a wonderful 2013!
CM - I love that - "Fake it until you make it"! I am guilty of the same. I think of myself as very hardworking with a good sense of humor. But my creative side is sorely lacking attention. I believe that will put the blips in the happiness meter! I hope you have a completely wonderful year. You SO deserve it!
Candy - What a great idea! It's unusual to find a radio station with such a great sense of humor... And best of years to you and yours, too, Candy!
Sounds like a wonderful plan, Susan, and one that we can all aspire to. Happy New Year, and Happy Birthday!!!
"they" (this time referring to the pants around the knees crowd) do everything one-handed LOL... I saw one the other day walking with his WIFE and KID (can you say grow up?) holding up his pants with one hand all through the store.... what is this world coming to? I hope 2013 is a better year for all of us, it seems like many of us need it to be!
