Happy Birthday to Me!

Today, for the first time in YEARS, I am doing just what I want.  Nada.  Nuttin.  (Except for more sanding, more vacuuming of dust, some painting, some cooking, some reading, some crossword puzzles, some shoveling - heeheehee.)  The problem with having a birthday on a holiday is that no one forgets it.  How am I supposed to ignore it when everyone from my parents, sisters, friends, dry cleaner, and Starbucks is trying to help me celebrate?  Oh, poor me...*snort*

And this is really so not me:

My Muck Boots, which I have been wearing for years (not the same pair, but the same brand) have let me down.  After having to superglue the front sole flap back on more than six times in less than two years, the back heel flap gave way last Saturday.  It was the last straw.  So I threw them in the trash bin and headed up to Bennington to find new boots.  I ended up with Bogs - with one hitch.  They did not have plain ones in my size.  I sidled around these for a good 15 minutes before deciding to get them.  Needless to say, they shocked the livestock.  Sage and Chickie slammed on the brakes at the sight of them, and both fluffy sheep had to thoroughly examine them before letting me through the gate.  I will have to say that they are the best-fitting barn boots I have ever worn.  And they have good traction and seem to be warm enough.  I am still startled when I look down, but they're growing on me.

I also got a very nifty handbook on how to tie knots (seems that someone actually was reading this blog....)
and, voila!:

A True Lover's Knot!  Now I just have to find me a true love that I can use it on.... :)

AND I must have been on Santa's "Good Beyond Belief" List, because I got a CAMERA for Christmas!!!!  Of course, it's like going from 0 to 100 from my old model to this one.  I am gingerly learning what all the dials and doodads are for.  But it does allow me to take much better pictures.  Such as:

My handsome boy.  Yes, he is ALWAYS around.  I have been using the fireplace a lot this past weekend, so Bernice is nowhere in sight.  She is, unfortunately, afraid of the fire.

Blip! Blip! Blip! (my happiness meter....)

  4. Happy Birthday Susan! I got a pair of Bogs boots as well. Mine have blue & purple flowers all over them. I wanted plain green but not at the RCC store where I went to buy.

    1. Michelle - Luckily for me, the demise of my Muck boots coincided with birthday money from my parents, so my Bogs were covered. I am using you as a role model for my picture-taking :).

  6. Happy happy Birthday!! Love the boots. Dont worry, those vibrant colors fade after several months of walking through mud and urine. I love bogs, and have had many pair. All end up only with faint marks left where the print once was. I hope you enjoyed your 'Susan day' and hopefully there was a piece of gluten free cake in there somewhere.

    1. Thank you, Jane! I do hope they fade (a little). I am so uneasy with flashy boots for some odd reason. I did, indeed, enjoy 'my' day and got tons done. And I DID save a piece of GF gingerbread cake that I had baked for the barn crew. Yum!

  9. I was going to say just what Candy did above . . . that new camera means all kinds of pictures included in your posts! Please, please, please. We all want to see more of your little homestead and animals. And YOU! (Does the camera having an automatic timing device so you can do that?)

I've never had a pair of bogs but you're making me think I should. Don't think I could go with the flowered ones though. I'm too much of an old plain green, hide-in-the-woods type gal. But on you, they look good.

Happy, happy birthday dear, dear lady. Looking forward to hearing your happiness blip meter go off a lot this coming year.

    1. Mama Pea - I am working my way toward an unveiling of sorts. Hang in there!

I am a black-boot kind of gal myself, so it was a very difficult decision to buy these. But, it was this pair or nothing, so there you go. I could probably hide in a garish florist shop (if I stood on my head?)

Thank you, dear Mama Pea for all of your wishes and bolstering up when I most need it.

  11. Happy Birthday and Happy New Year.

Now those are some "stylin" boots. I keep trudging around in black ones. Had to buy a new pair this year, duct tape was not keeping the old ones water tight. I always end up with a hole in the heel of my left boot ... I take it off first with the other boot, then take the right one of with socked foot, I need to alternate how I take them off so they both wear out at the same time. And me too looking forward to more pictures.

    1. TL - I can relate to the duct tape. I tried every kind of glue, tape and spit on my old ones, but nothing held for long. I do the same thing! Since my left foot is larger since I broke it, I have to pry off my left boot with my right. I'll have to keep my eye on the wear.

    1. HG - What is it with boot makers? Do they think that ALL women need pink to feel dressed right? I am so NOT a fan of pink! Hope you find what you're looking for!
