Ingrates.

I'm already down to 0-2 eggs a day.  I do the happy dance when I discover two eggs in the nesting boxes, pathetic chicken owner that I am.  I know I have some geriatric girls in the flock, but I have more than 30 freakin' chickens!  I mean, really.  I think it must be a solidarity issue - no one lays an egg until the half-nekkid  moulters are back to their feathery selves.  Which, at this rate, will be in the middle of winter, when everything poultry forgets its purpose in life. I am forced to buy eggs from friends who have kind, productive birds - though, I'd rather face that humiliation than eat a store-bought egg.  It's going to be a loooong winter.

Can't eat a store-bought egg anymore. Yuck. Our gals have slacked off a bit, too, but are doing better than yours. Sorry. :o(

And here I was thinking five chicks would keep me going. No wonder I was on the receiving end of a few smirks from the old timers.

OK, you've taught me a lesson. I just told my husband last week that when we DO get chickens, I'll only need 5 or 6. Ha!

LOL. My old hens are on strike and young ones haven't started yet. I haven't let the old ones know their days are numbered. Well except for the one Lakenvelder who gives me a new batch of chicks each year. She raised 16 chicks this year and every single one of them are still around. Unfortunatly 6 are roosters of which only one will be retained. I haven't chosen who but I do know which one will not be staying.

We have 80 and getting 1 or 2 eggs a day. Our egg customers are not happy. We have never had this problem before and we have had chickens for years.

They're so pallid!

So, what's your secret?!?!

They will for about 2-3 years then you'll be in trouble... :)

At least you won't be shoveling 40# of feed down their ungrateful gullets every week!

6:10 rooster:hen is not a bad ratio! My last was 5 out of 9 were roosters!

Egads, Peggy! I feel slightly less awful. I wonder what's going on in our flocks?

Wow, you're not getting any more eggs than I am from my 11 hens – and my oldest is seven! Fortunately, we don't use a lot of eggs, so we're getting enough for our own use. My few customers are disappointed, though....

Yowza! Have you tired giving them extra high protein supplements? Sometimes that helps the molting regrowth.

Chicken shaming! I love it! I am hoping your chickens start giving you dozens of eggs each week!

My 6 girls are starting to molt too. I'm getting 1 or maybe 2 eggs a day! Unacceptable!
How long does molting last?l

Feed them a high protein diet to hurry along the feather making. And, give them a hug, each and every one of them.

i refuse to buy store bought eggs! wonder why they aren't laying?

Wow, I have half that number and was disgusted with the few I was getting. Happily, my Black Australorps have just started laying and the pantry is filled with several dozen jars of chicken soup. In the future I need to keep a better balance of birds of varying ages.

Go out on the deck and rotisserie a chicken...it may send a message?

I am going to have to show your post to my friend Jan. To let her know she is not alone. She has 27 birds and no eggs for three weeks .
