A Poem for Lucy
You arrived a ball of fluff
so indiscernible from the soft peeping mass
But not for long, my cheeky girl.
A red-feathered beauty with a soft spot for me
And for you, the same place in my heart
Still there, sweet Lucy, after all these years.

I'm sorry, Susan....
Big hugs for Susan!! Lucy knew she was loved! :)
We can call them "dumb clucks" when they frustrate us and don't do what we want, but doggone it, some of the little feathered buggers have personalities that steal straight into our hearts. Hugs for you and remember what a wonderful life your long-lived Lucy had.
Aw, Lucy. Beautiful poem. Isn't it amazing how they steal our hearts and make themselves right at home there? I'm sorry...and hugs to you. :)
Now that's a chicken that had a great life! Sorry, Susan :(
Thanks, everyone. Lucy had a long, productive life and was my sidekick. I don't think she was interested in participating in another winter. Can't say that I blame her. She was a sweet girl.
I'm so sorry. Lucy sounds like she was an amazing chicken.
Megan - Thanks for your comment. She was very astute for a chicken - and would keep me company while I worked outside.
Awww. So sorry to hear this:(
Aw Susan. I'm so sorry to hear this as well. Great photo and lovely poem. Hugs.
