In my short *cough* lifetime, I have had few reasons to celebrate Valentine's Day. If I wasn't tangled up with someone who was completely dense in the romantic celebration area, I was not tangled up with anyone. I always thought it was rather heartless of all the flower/candy/underwear promoters to not take into account the feelings of those of us who were without a romantic partner. It made "leper" come to mind.
Well, I have changed my tune. I am celebrating ME this Valentine's Day. I love me. Most of the time. I am glad I have me. I can always talk to me (and I do, often, much to the alarm of innocent bystanders). I can count on me. I always remember my birthday (even though I try hard to forget it lately).
I am buying me flowers (actually - and I hope me can understand and forgive me - I have inherited a lovely bouquet from my boss, who is on her way to Florida...) I am going to make a special dinner for me (even with all of the onerous restrictions of my present detox - dessert is out). I am taking myself for a walk. With the dogs, who will help me celebrate the me-ness of me (for a price - crunchy treats, anyone?)
It might catch on...xoxoxo

bahahahahahah! i suggest that in lieu of dessert - you should give yourself a couple of crunchy dog treats - bahahhahah! we had the suckiest valentine's day dance at our community centre last night - but it was a hoot for those who attended. we were having quite the snowstorm so a bunch of people couldn't make it out. me and hubby worked the door, swapping off...but we still managed to celebrate our 15th "i love you day". we first said "i love you" to each other on feb 13th, 15 yrs ago, so yesterday is more important to us than today is.
but you go and enjoy those flowers, enjoy your walk and have a crunchy dog treat for me. and i want to know what the special dinner will be...and i will need pics for proof.
i can't think of a better way to celebrate today than to celebrate the you-ness of you! bahahahah!
your friend,
kymber
Happy VD day to you Susan. Sometimes my own company is all I can endure some days. Enjoy your walk with the dogs & those flowers are beautiful!
You know what they say . . . you can't love anybody else unless you love yourself! So happy, happy Valentine's Day to you and me and all the rest of "yourselves" out there!
I love your attitude. Hope you have the BEST Valentine's day EVER!
Good for you. We often measure our worth by the thoughts of others. It's time to celebrate ourselves.
Good for you x2! We're the only person who's always there for us even IN a relationship! I mentally talk myself thru all kinds of situations. I threw myself a birthday party once because no one else would. I loved it! Rock on :)
Happy Valentine's Day! This way you'll get just what you want!! :)
IMHO, animals are the best Valentines ever, dogs especially. Besides God, they are the only creatures capable of unconditional love!
Happy V day and many more with your good companions. It is so darned commercial....remember in early grade school when we gave each other those little valentines....ahh so innocent then!
Good for you!! Any man who doesn't love you is a turd.
Beautiful flowers and free to boot! The best kind. I bought myself chocolates one year--sort of expensive ones but I was giving them to the one I love (most of the time). I hope this is okay but am attaching a link to a poem I heard read on BBC Cultural Frontline last Friday evening. I so needed to hear it that night. It's titled "How to Love Yourself."

And yes, dogs are the best people.
good for you! my husband of 34 years got me squat. what an asshole. it is not pleasant around here right now. what a jerk!
Kymber - Ha! I DO try dog treats, as I think I shouldn't give them garbage. Some of them aren't half bad...hehe.
DFW - I hope you got to spend the day with someone you love (including you). My walk got kiboshed because of the weather, but we did get to spend some quality time together.
Mama Pea - Indeed! I hope your VD was spent in the quilt room!
Sue - Well, it didn't turn out quite as planned - but nothing new there!
Gail - Sometimes it's hard to separate the person we truly are from all the versions cast upon us by others. True, true.
Nancy - Good for you!
Candy - I hoper your VD was as special as you are!
Michelle - I find that dogs allow you to be completely yourself, as they are. There's nothing more special than that.
Fiona - I LOVED those little Valentine's cards.
CM - May I use that in my next iffy relationship? :)
Mollie - Thank you for that link - what a great poem!
Jaz - What? After 34 years he doesn't get it? It certainly should NOT be pleasant there. He better make it up. Geez.
