I am facing up.

I am parting with my precious 1847 Oregon Trail Sourdough Starter.

There.  I've said it.  I've posted it.  I mean it.

So, if you would like to be the recipient of my precious starter, complete with directions to revive and a whole bunch of historic and tasty recipes, please leave a comment below as to why you would be the perfect Sourdough Starter Parent.

*Open to US residents only, please.  Entry ends at midnight, Tuesday, May 28.  Winner will be randomly chosen Wednesday, May 29.  Bon chance!

Because sour dough has been on my Bucket List for forever. And, to have an actual historic starter would make it all the better!

Ohhh! Starter! That's awesome. I live off of a road called Oregon Trail, does that count??

Well....I'd definitely be just down the road if you ever wanted some back....(giving back the kids does NOT make me the best parent ever for the sourdough...but I promise not to spank, how's that?)

And you know I love bread...

Ok, that sounds too cool! You didn't, perchance, get this starter from the original owner, did you?!

ZING!

(This doesn't mean I'm disqualified, does it? Come ON! It was funny!)

Holy Crap! That is so awesome! I would totally freakin love to try this!

I mean, how cool is it to have a starter like that?! I would be a great sourdough starter parent because I can bake like nobodies business. Well, except whole wheat bread....

I'm HORRIBLE with sourdough starters so don't include me in the drawing but I wanted to say how awesome it is that you are passing it along! :)

I would absolutely love a starter that has been around that long! I love sourdough and the older the starter the better the bread. I started a starter three months ago but I don't know if its because its not very old but it does not rise or have the sourdough flavor yet. I can not have regular yeast bread anymore (drs orders) but he said the yeast in Sourdough would be easier on my stomach please add me in your drawing :) maybe if you have extra sometime I would be interested in purchasing a starter?
Thanks kim

DFW - Was on mine, too. Now I think that too much bread would push me closer to the proverbial bucket.

Jocelyn - I would LOVE to live off a road called Oregon Trail.

Melanie - Yes, NO spanking of the starter, please! :)

Carolyn - And what was your name again?

Susan said...

TG - Who knows? This might be what you need to break through that little WW bread problem....

Candy - I can't believe it! You who are the Baking Queen!?!

Kim - If you do not win, maybe the winner would be so kind as to pass some along....? Hmmm?

Hi..I came over from Feral Woman...for some reason I have it in my head I want to move to upper state NY or Vermont...only for the growing season though..ha!..Looking forward to reading your past and present posts...

Hi back! I would highly recommend this area - although I am determined to move out of NY in my Last Move. They don't call it the Vampire State for nothing. Your neck of the woods (or desert) is pretty spectacular - glad you stopped by!

Barb - Yes, it's amazing how they can keep this stuff going! I've heard of freezing it, but never drying it.
