Surprise package.

When I got home from work on Wednesday evening, I found a small package in my mailbox.  No return address, no identifying marks.  There was just my name hand-printed and a hand-printed reference to the mailer's address - Bennington, VT.

Inside was my wallet.  Completely intact, with the exception of all my cash - even the coins.  I felt an equal measure of creeped-out and thankful that someone took the time and money to send it to me.  I am still creeped-out by the fact that someone took it.  After shredding all of the cards and IDs that I have already replaced, I was happy to have my library card back.

I have had various levels of thievery directed towards me in my long and colorful past.  Some were benign like this stealing of my wallet and the pilfering of moving boxes on a few occasions (always risky, as I moved myself and couldn't keep my eye on my boxes AND move them upstairs -- always upstairs) and some were not.  I have had my apartment burglarized on three separate occasions (twice in one place and once in another).  I have been held up at knife point - which really p***ed me off and I fought back.  Luckily, the guy was no professional and only succeeded in ripping my purse off it's strap.  And didn't inflict bodily harm on my stupid self.

I felt the same after each and every incident, no matter if it was benign or malevolent.  I felt violated.  So, no matter how much I did like my wallet, it's going to Goodwill.  Should I do some sort of cleansing thing before I send it off?  Will it retain some whiff of curse that will effect the new owner?  Am I over-thinking this?  (Really?  You think?)

I feel so bad that all this has happened to you. I'm even more surprised they mailed back your stuff. And I'm creeped out completely over the fact they know where you live.
I shall get my voodoo doll ready to inflict odd pains on them.......
(oh, if only that worked-LOL!!!)

Obviously some feelings of wrong doing prompted sending you the wallet. Maybe it was someone who was really down and out and needed a few bucks, but as the days went on they realized how wrong they had been. I think it is an act of asking for forgiveness.

OK, no stamp or postmark - NOT MAILED! That means delivered.....that is freaky creepy. Even if it was, as Sylvia suggests, an act of remorse...they should not be coming to your house!

And let's say it was someone who found the empty wallet and wanted you to have that....again - should not be coming to your house!

Ewwwwwww!

I too am thinking it was hand delivered :-/. I think I'd fuzz out your mailing address too in that picture. Yikes.

I agree; creepy all around. But you never know, maybe the person who "found" it had the best of intentions. Keep telling yourself that. But still take it to Goodwill.

I am truly with Melanie up there... Lets pretend that the wallet got tossed and a good Samaritan picked it up to return it. But again, why no postage???

Think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts.

The new wallet is super cute!!!

Even if the post office delivered it, since there was no return address to send it back for postage there would be a postage due notice on it. I am sure that the PO did not deliver but possibly the person that took your wallet ........... Now I would be concerned about them coming back for something else. Where was you wallet stolen? Beware of any strangers coming around.

Nope, the wallet will retain no curse. Rather only good vibes because it came back to you and because someone who really needs a new wallet will now get it as you pass it along. 'Twas meant to be passed on to someone else as a good thing.

Susan,

Please be careful, this person had the balls to take your wallet while you were out and now it's being returned to your personal mail box with no postage. Be aware of your surroundings and if you see something strange call the police.

Agree with everyone else. Please be careful.

You now know that you must post EVERY DAY or give all of your blogpals your phone number so we can check on you, or we will be WORRIED! Hand-delivered is scary....

I'd burn it personally, or bury it in salt first.

The creepy part is they know where you live. If there's no stamp it wasn't mailed. Which means they would also have to know you. Get a Dog a very big dog!

I don't think its over-thinking. I think it's a normal reaction. It is a violation, of respect at the very least. Scary stuff, but I'm glad it turned out the way it did. I vote for a big dog too.

Yep, a bit creepy that it seems it was hand delivered. I do think it was "thieves' remorse" that made them return it though and I do like Mama Pea's thinking about there being only good vibes for the next owner. She comes up with the best stuff, huh? :)
My MR2 was stolen from the carport one night after having it for less than 2 weeks so I know what you mean about feeling violated.

I'd say it's time for a large LGD rescue dog. I don't trust people, for probably less reason than you!
