Um...thank you?
My dear, generous-to-a-fault sister gifted my chickens on Easter with...
Urk. I know they are not alive. I know they are just dried bits of fowl food. But, it is just so, so, so, ICKY. It takes Herculean effort to get my hand in that bag, I'll tell you. However, the chickens think they are the bee's knees. I went out with my shaky handful and tossed it in their direction. They ran up, came to a screeching halt - stuck their necks out and gave them the beady-eye. Then they descended on them like a herd of feathered piranhas! I barely got out with my socks on. I will have to be more careful in spreading the meal-worm-love. Besides, it will probably take me a few days to get my nerve up enough to stick my hand in that bag again.

"Meal" worms. Get it? MEAL worms?? Nevermind. Too early. :)
Ha ha ha! I treat my chickens with them too. In fact, we are out of them right now. When I go out to put laundry on the line, they come running to me.
The one that makes me sick is that the selection of american made rawhide chews is very slim. There are only a few selections and they are always something from a horror movie -dried sheep lung, trachea, tails, pig snout! Since even the sight of a steak makes me sick, you can imagine the sounds I make at the feed store when I have to make a selection. I would nix the whole thing, but that is the only thing that helps their teeth. Look what these animals make me do!
I'd be wearing a shoulder high glove and using a scoop!
CR - You're right. It's too early ;o)
Kristina - I love my chickens, but these things are expensive!
Jane - I am really surprised that 'they' haven't had the foresight to realize that we blanch at the anatomical descriptions - why not "Dried Sheep Angels", or "Pork Curly-Qs"? I hope your dogs know how much you love them. You're a brave woman.
Jenyfer - Hey! I think I have an extra lambing glove - good idea!
I'd be using a scoop or some other utensil....what were you thinking when you TOUCHED them? :)
TinaH
Blech!
We used to feed them out live to some of the animals in the pet shop. We had to behead them for the smaller lizards, or they would chew their way out of the lizard, creating their own route and generally causing the demise of said lizard. Some birds really need the extra protein. We kept them in the fridge in a bowl of bran.
TinaH - I was trying to WomanUp - if my sister stuck her hand in the bag, so would I.
HG - Ditto, my dear.
Kayten - Is there anything that you HAVEN'T done? And just when I thought it couldn't get more gross..... xxx
It's really easy to grow these yourself with a couple of plastic boxes and some easy supplies. We set my Mom up to grow them for the bluebirds she feeds. We call her spare room closet the worm closet now. lol
Okay, I really didn't need to read this post. But, what? You didn't have to reconstitute them before feeding them to the chickens? Oh yuck, that just grosses me out more thinking of it. Call me cruel but our chickens can just go find their own worms or go without!
Funny! I am like you. I could fling a fresh cow patty at someone, but I couldn't stick my hand in that bag either!
Oh yummy! I ned to buy my girls some...
LOL! I have live ones right now living in a container of oatmeal hahaha, but I don't actually touch them I have a long tweezers :) They are really easy to "farm" LOL
You actually stuck you hand in there and grabbed a handful?!?!?!?!!? I would have used a scoop!!! Very nice sister though.
You must love your chickens VEERRRY much! Blech!
I like my chickens, but I don't think I'd stick my hand in that bag... yuck! I'll let them dig for their own fresh worms!!
