Bertie is now known as Plow Boy. For a dog that has never seen the snow, he is loving it. He plows through the chest-deep snow, full of joy. The Gazelle (Lovey) is right behind him, although she needs to be wearing her fleece jacket. In a distant third is The Pepperoni. I'll give him credit - he chugs right through snow that is up and over his back. Until he's had enough, that is. Then he stops, turns a mournful (and slightly accusing) eye to me, lifts a paw which shakes violently, and waits for me to trudge out and pick him up. I. cannot. resist.
I was happy to discover that the snow was of the dry, fluffy type as I shoveled my way through my quarter mile paths. Since it was snowing heavily all day, I fed the sheep in the barn. The chickens refused to come out and the ducks were sorry they did. I shoveled enough outside of the front door to make sure I could open it, then hunkered down for the day. I had a loose plan of knitting, knitting and more knitting, but then The Chorus started - "Really? And with all those other things that you keep putting off still waiting for your attention?"
I am nothing, if not my mother's daughter - I fold under guilt quite easily. While I did allow myself some knitting time - as well as diving into a new library book - I also checked a few niggling things off of my inside list:
Polishing the brown shoes/boots (plus a quick fix to my black boots)

(No photo - I figured the pics of shoes and a dirty oven were enough excitement for today)
I also performed triage on Bertie's favorite toy - for the third time; mended my favorite flannel shirt; laundered the alternate sofa cover; vacuumed and swept. All in all, it was a very satisfying day 'off'.

Yay for your day at home being snowbound . . . kinda. Nice job on the shoes and boots. Do you realize very few people polish their shoes anymore? (And it shows.)
Two questions: The rubber band around the cabinet doors. To keep Lovey and/or Bertie from opening them? Or do you have some toddlers running around you've failed to tell us about?
Number 2 question: The inside of your oven looks better than mine. When shall I schedule a house call? For you to come here to clean mine, I mean. Not for me to come there to clean yours. No, no, no, no. (Why do you think mine looks so bad? Could it be my extreme avoidance of the task?)
What an unexpected (and welcome!) surprise. I wish we'd get a snow day. Or ANY kind of snow. What a winter. Drizzle, drizzle, fog, and gloom. And more drizzle. Bah!
Don't you just love those "puttering" days--lots of little things that make the day go so fast. Glad you at least did a little knitting and reading. Enjoy!
I see your inquiring mind is a work...The rubber band around the door knobs is to keep the cats from opening each and EVERY cabinet they can get their little paws around. Oh, pshaw. My oven only looks nicer because it's been covered with a slather of homemade oven cleaner. You should have seen it this morning - pure sludge.
Sue - most of our winter has been the same. When the sun comes out, I almost go into shock! The sun is out today (along with single digit temps) but we are due for more gloom and snow for the next 3-4 days. I am tired of it.
We have had 12 inches of heavy wet snow sitting on everything including the driveway for about two weeks. I got out once in the break between one storm and the next. I've knitted, cleaned the fridge, watched reruns of Perry Mason and today will pull out all the guilt inducing bags of blackcurrants and make into jam. The little mutts are loving the snow but desperate for a good walk.
nothing quite like a snow day! another reason i hate summer. we never get heat days. did you use baking soda to clean your oven? how do you do it. i have such oven shame! i really need to tackle it.
I miss snow days when I worked in my old school. I would have really scored this year! Nancy
Omigosh, I'm so glad I'm not the only person with a really, really dirty oven! I, too, was wondering what you use to clean yours, Susan.
Cleaning the oven -- now THERE'S a nasty job alright!
Susan - That wet stuff is agony to shovel! Staying in and knitting (I LOVE Perry Mason and have all the DVDs...) is the only smart thing to do.
I mix up 1-1/3 C baking soda, 1/4 cup vinegar, 3 T castile soap and enough water to make a thick paste. Then I paint it on with a cheapo paint brush that I have for such an occasion. Leave it on 6+ hours, wash off with scrubber/sponge. Rinse repeat if necessary. And it will be...
Nancy - I wish we could have them not count against our vacation days, but I'm not risking life and limb for the J.O.B.
A perfect job for minions. If you had any.
