Snow should break out today, so I am keeping a close eye on the weather. I am not going to repeat Thursday. Not nohow, as Lewis Carroll so aptly put it. (TANGENT ALERT) I think that Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass are my all-time favorite books. One of the only things I have ever memorized is The Jabberwocky, which I often spouted off, no matter how glazed the eyes of my audience became. Early on in my working career (present job - earlier version), a group of us went to lunch to celebrate something or other. Included in the group was a very interesting fellow - a lobbyist with deep connections. Some way or another, Lewis Carroll came up in conversation and, before you know it, we both went off, quoting The Jabberwocky. We were fast friends after that.
When I was in college (an Art and English major, can't you tell?) I rendered a version of the original Jabberwocky illustration in fine point pen and ink, on a 4 x 4 foot piece of rice paper. I was a little OCD in my early 20s.
Back to the present. If you want to know more, you're going to have to wait for the book. And the book can't come out until everyone I ever knew before the age of 50 is dead.
I think that the Midwest may be having it worse, weather-wise than we will - my thoughts are with all of you, all my warmest thoughts. Let's hope this is the last of the Arctic weather and we can get back to a 'normal' February. I am arming myself with my seed catalogs this weekend - plus my sister is coming for an overnight, which will thrill the dogs and me no end. I believe it will also include Mexican food and margaritas.
(TANGENT ALERT) What is with the Japanese and their overwhelming desire to decimate ocean species? Apparently, they have set their sites on Minke whales - all in the name of research. I seriously think we need to hunt THEM down and bitch-slap them silly. Bastards.
(Inhale) This is why I need to stay away from the news. I can feel my blood pressure skyrocketing. Speaking of which, I have my annual physical Friday morning. That should be interesting. To everyone in the path of the latest winter onslaught, stay inside, stay warm and wrap yourself in furry bodies, if you are lucky enough to have them around.

Which yarn has poor memory? Stay safe and warm you!
I think there are a whole crapload of asshats needing to be bitch slapped.
These are socks that were given to me by a fellow knitter. It was spur-of-the-moment and I know they were not originally intended for me, so have always been on the large side. But they are knit with good sock yarn and in 2x2 ribbing, so should stay up! OMG, I could make it a full time job of bitch-slapping idjuts. Starting in the WH.
Oh my gosh, was just thinking about my 5th grade class Jabberwocky 'lesson'. We had to pick a verse then stand in front of the class & recite it in various emotions (sad, happy, excited, angry - I think that was all). I can't remember which verse I selected but I got the highest praise in the class & was told that I should become an actress. I'd either be a lot richer or a lot poorer if that had been my chosen path.
After reading both your comments, I got so depressed thinking about the number of idiots/narcissists/demons in the world that I have no comment. Good thing the farrier arrives soon.
The things we learn about each other! What might have been, right?
Michelle, luckily, there are way more good people out there. It's just that the idiots get more air space. Yay! The farrier!
Stay warm! And dry!
stay warm! the temps here are dropping like a rock. i will have many faucets dripping tonight!
Give me all your polargeddons please if you just take away the cold. Supposed to be -20 F (-60 F windchill) tonight and then a high of -10 F tomorrow followed by another ungodly cold night. I hope this sneaks back up to Canada and doesn't crawl out to the east coast.
I’m with you on the bitch-slapping. Not only for the WH but also any nation who declares they’re just not gonna be part of any marine mammal protections.
Stay warm and hope your critters come thru ok! And yes slap those hunters, by all means! Sadly it's about making $$$$
We're in for another round of cold weather too!! Ugh! Don't you just hate it when your socks do that? like you said every thing is where you can't reach it. Stay warm and snuggle with your little fury friends. I'll be with mine.
Our weather forecast sounds identical to Ed's up above. But the bugs aren't bad right now.
So why is it that the only news we hear is of the nimrods that have lost all sense of common sense . . . or worse? Yes! There are LOTS of wonderful people out there doing wonderful things which it seems they get very little credit for. Grrrr.
Stay warm and safe.
Giving you a virtual high five on the whole sock/boot thing. There really is a strategy for positioning your slippers where you can reach them while teetering in one boot. And, wait, your storm has a name??? -Jenn
we are a failed species is all I can figure. we just haven't died out from our absolute stupidity yet.
I have two pair of those dorky little half sock things for my crocs. I am old...therefore old school...my feet tell me constantly my socks have rolled down...but it’s actually how they fit...geck. Ralph was so pleased to give me these little socks....I can’t not use them, 😂😂
As to winters fury.....I love postcards of trees covered with blankets of snow...but now I just prefer layers of cost blankets, and seriously it’s not that bad here.
It’s a good thing the Jabberwocky.....
You keep warm and stay safe.
My socks never cooperate no matter what they're made of. Currently wearing two pairs!
“an Art and English major, can't you tell?”
Oh therefore a degree in “Liberal” arts?
😂
We are bracing through a very cold day here and tomorrow. I am definitely curled up with a fur baby or two. Barn cat Aurora is safely inside. I'm just not looking forward to going to the barn today. I won't have mail, thankfully they shut down delivery today. It's that cold and we have never had this cold of weather.
Add to your list of idiots all those who choose to buy endangered species' body parts instead of taking a freaking viagra. Sheesh.
Hope your warming methods work well. I'll be making three trips out to the coops today with liquid water. Poor things.
We're right in the middle of the deep freeze.....-20 at 5:30 am. Haven't been out since Sunday. Lots of spinning, knitting and wool fluffing going on here!
You and me both with the 'depressing news' and BP rise over it. Yet at the end of the day I can't stay away from knowing what went on in the world. There was a time when I didn't watch at all and missed a war that went on! Thank goodness it wasn't in our country or I would have been really surprised! I need to get my sock knitting back out...I'd laid it aside while making for Christmas and some January birthdays and I miss knitting socks. I usually always have a pair going. Have a good week and the warmup is coming....Sunday we will be 66 and Monday 71 here in the South so I bet you will be way above freezing!
I remember when I had my little acreage...the balancing act and more often than not my bare foot went in the snow! I'm in AR and it's 24 which is very cold for here and my daughter is in IA and it is -24 there. A student from the U of I died outside his dorm....froze to death....not sure why but yes, it is dangerous weather there. I think they said it was actually colder than the artic circle.
