Individual Cocooning - the New Social Distancing!

Social Distancing

Individual Cocooning
I will say one thing about the general chaos that has struck this nation, it is tending to bring out the better side of people (with the exception of the selfish idiots who stripped the shelves bare - you know who you are.)  A plethora of posts have popped up on FB that have people offering to pick things up and do errands for those who are safest at home.  People are buying gift certificates from small local businesses who have been forced to close - giving them a slim lifeline until the danger is passed.  It is heartening.  I have started seeds, if for nothing more than to make myself feel more hopeful.  I am still commuting to the office, although that will change by the end of the week, I feel.  It's a good thing I pack in my lunch, as all restaurants are closed.

These are interesting times.

Well, if you'd leave some heat on in the house during the day when you're gone, your dogs wouldn't be suffering chilblains and require swaddling in layers of blankets! (Haha.)

So you think you'll be working at home by next week? Think of all the money you'll save on gas! And how happy your furry friends will be. :o)

Susan, it's lovely to hear about all those helpful people willing to reach out and help others at a time like this. I needed that! I'm trying to avoid the complaining and blaming---they don't help anybody or anything. It's a time to encourage one another!

Well, shoot. I was hoping you had been able to give up that commute with all of this. Soon, I hope! (Thanks so much for the note and book!)

Those pups are adorable. This introverted gardener is enjoying her "stay at home" time. Counting myself very lucky to have a veg plot to work in, compost to turn, meadow to stand in and forest trails to roam-and the sun is shining. Tell those bosses of yours NOW is the time for everyone to stay home!

Happy pups soon with you all to themselves. At least this hit in springtime when we can distract ourselves with gardening.

Same here. I could not find flour, pet food, TP, paper towels, and canned items were so slim. I opted for the broths, butter, milk etc to make stuff from scratch. I hope to get one more shopping trip before it hits the fan. They keep shutting down stuff about every 3 days in our state.

one good thing coming out of the cessation of global human activity is that it is giving the planet a chance to breathe.

I had 2 dogs I lost last summer...they were both 14...a rottweiler and a miniature dachshund....same coloring but totally different body types....together they were 'mutt and jeff'. I miss them terribly, but I'm getting too old to be able to train any more dogs. Yours are precious and it warmed my heart to see them. Stay well!

My animals are thrilled that I've finally come to my senses and stopped working to stay home and pet them all day. I'm not isolating but I am distancing and this is the perfect excuse to avoid the people I've been distancing myself from for ages, anyway. Plus, I get to sleep and garden.
