Whambang-est Giveaway - Day #6

I like to tell people that I use building plans for 'inspiration'.  That usually can get me off the hook for having to explain why nothing I build looks anything like it was supposed to.  I have the will, most of the tools, but none of the expertise.  Yet, again, that has not stopped me.  Of course, after you've seen some of my building projects, you might think it ought to have stopped me.  I tend to be a real scavenger and have (neat) piles of lumber and building materials that I've pulled out of burn piles, dumpsters, curbside trash piles, you name it.  It got so bad that my farmer neighbor started checking with me before dumping things in the burn pile.  Wait - that's good, isn't it?

Today's offering is:  How to Build Animal Housing, by Carol Ekarius.

Topic for today's comment: What livestock would you really, truly LOVE to have if money, time and acreage were not issues?  I would have an emu farm.  I ruv them.

(Comment by midnight tonight to be eligible for the drawing. Sorry, shipment of the book is limited to the US.)

Congratulations to the winner of the Day #5 giveaway (drumroll):  Kim!!  Please send your mailing information to me at swomersley at gmail dot com.  (All information I receive stays with me and is strictly confidential.)

I would ♥♥♥ this book!!!! I need to build a better goat barn and I have to build a bigger chicken coop for all the babies I just hatched. The animal I would like to get eventually would be pigs, they are so cute ☺

A milk goat. I love goats, and would love to have my own milk source. Hubby says no to more twice a day commitments, though, and it WOULD tie us down more. Hard to find "chore-doers" who milk!

Count me out for the giveaway- we got this book when we were planning the chicken coop. It was used as "suggestions" and then we did it our way, LOL!
As for what I would have regardless of money, time or space... Belgians! I love, love, love heavy horses. And maybe goats and a dairy cow. But sadly, Vernon has decreed no hoofed mammals. I've got to work on him for that one....

Well, you didn't say they had to be PRODUCTIVE livestock, so if money and land were no issue I would have BURROS... and lots of 'em! Every time I see them with their Mexican blankets on and loaded down with random packs I get all starry eyed, my husband thinks I'm nuts LOL! It's no secret that I love all things dysfunctional and fun, hence my love for goats and Border Collies, but a BURRO would really make my day :) And there will be a sign that says anyone who calls them donkeys will be shuttled... I can't have anyone messing with my Burro trekking adventure fantasy :)

Ugh. I'd feel guilty if I signed up for this one. I went to check the library downstairs and I have THREE different books about animal shelters and buildings. So once again, I'll pass. But tomorrow, TOMORROW!!

Anyhow, I'd LOVE to have a Jersey cow. I soooooo want cream.

I would have 4 Jersey cows...and I'd make lovely cheeses and yogurts! (I have to buy my milk from a dairy, now). I want goats and will be getting a couple, soon...but Jersey cows are my dream.

I have wood piles, sheet metal piles, odds and ends that I might need one of these days, or maybe never, but then you never know. Oh and I have a stack of windows + screens when neighbor replaced 52 windows in their house. They built a green house with some of them and gave me about 20 ........ someday .......... maybe I can build a greenhouse, or at least a cold frame.

ooh, ooh, ooh! I want this book! If I don't win it, I'll have to put it on my wish list. =)
If money/time/acreage/laws weren't issues, I'd love to have goats! I almost think we could do it now if we had just a little more space - and if it was legal. =( There are plenty of cities that allow goats (St. Paul, Portland OR, Seattle) but not Minneapolis! We've been thinking about doing it illegally anyway and have one or two books about goats. My aunt and cousins had goats when I was growing up. Going to visit them for a week or two one summer when I was a kid is one of the most magical memories I have of growing up. I know male goats are a pain (and stink) and goats in general can be a pain - but they're just so darn cute!! And I love goat cheese. =)

I would have goats again. I LOVE to milk. I think that's the closest I've ever gotten to meditating. (So, Michelle, I would gladly come and be your relief milker!) But I have vowed never to get goats again until I have a real barn with kidding pens, etc. (And a comfy separate area for a couple of bucks [mini-barn?] so we didn't have to worry about how the heck to get the girls bred.) I've spent too many winter nights worrying that the goats weren't warm enough in their less-than-perfect shelters. My husband would have horses again. Unlike me(!), he's a natural on horseback and would love to have a couple/three horses grazing outside in a pasture of lush, green grass.

Well OBVIOUSLY, Mama Pea, you need to move next door! We could share goats, horses and chores!

What?!? No one wants to join me on my Emu Farm? How odd. Sorry for being missing in action - I've had Flora issues and overnight company. What a mix. I am very glad to see Jerseys popping up here. I am extremely fond of Jerseys.
