Why, oh, why is it that I often winge about things that I hope for? Let's take Farch, for example. How many times did I go on (and on) about where for art Farch? Well, it art here and I am already wishing it away. Come on, March! Come on April! I really do think I would dislike it less if I didn't have to drive an hour in the dark, with the snow pelting against my windshield over dark, twisty roads. Five days a week. And I would like it more if there could be just the weensiest bit of sun every day or so. All weekend long, it was grey, raw, windy and spitting snow. Just enough snow to really irritate you (me).
After coming "this" close to wrenching a gate off its baling twine hinges (can we say "Hillbilly"?) after it was frozen yet again, I managed to grit my teeth and finish the barest essentials of morning chores and stagger into the house. I tackled more of the living room redo and felt much better. I painted the last blue wall and put down more tile. And reassured Bernie on an hourly basis.
And made plans for visitors in April! Woot! I am hoping they have the foresight not to eat for three days before arriving, because I pulled out all the recipes I've been wanting to try - and they will be my Guinea pigs! Er, tasters. I will save an entire blog about their visit - it's just so exciting!
I have been working out in my mind (let's see how long I can retain it) what I need to do to the goat barn and environs. While Sage and Chickie are lounging at the midwife's farm, I plan on taking advantage of their brief absence to redo their fencing, reinforce the barn and clean it out. You know how that works - you slapdash something together because you don't have time to create something that makes sense; then you're stuck with it because it's in use and you have no Plan B. You don't know how that works? Well, it doesn't really work at all. I tend to go by the seat-of-the-pants plan, no matter how good my intentions. I have learned to embrace the Imperfect Me. I am nothing, if not flexible.
I am thinking about doing a real homesteady giveaway contest - the closest guess as to the actual number of 5 gallon buckets of llama beans I will have to shovel up once the snow melts, wins....something. I am guessing, conservatively, anywhere between 20 and 50. It's sort of like guessing how many jelly beans are in the gallon jar at the hardware store. Sort of like that. Just stinkier. What do you think? Anyone game?

I pick 42 jelly poop bean buckets! Sophie picks them all. I am not sure if she understands the contest. She thinks they are the prize ;)
With another snow storm coming tomorrow, I am about ready to not even get out of bed. I am at a breaking point with this weather. This HAS to be the coldest tail end of winter/spring yet. I am thinking I need to winter in Hawaii.
Jane - I got a great laugh out of Sophie's thinking the beans were the prize! Wouldn't she be in Heaven? I'd hate to think where you'd be - behind her with the mop, I bet. Hawaii sounds pretty wonderful right about now. We are forecast to continue on in this gloomy pattern for another four days. I hope I can last! Hold on - Spring IS coming!
Since I am usually optimistic about what a job entails, I am going to guess 52 buckets.
If it will help you get through the Great Llama Bean Poop Scoop, I'll play. I say it won't be as bad as you're thinking. Only 19 five gallon buckets full.
We had (it's sinking into the tree line now) a sunny day here today with a whopping high temp of 27.5 degrees which should have felt warmer than it did. I think it had something to do with a stiff on and off (but mostly on) breeze that cut right through any and all clothing. Our springs tend to be damp so it never seems balmy until June-ish. Which basically means we totally miss spring and go right into summer. Sigh.
I'll take some of the beans/buckets....I'll even come gather them myself if you're at all interested in sharing....
I'm telling ya, you need to move even a little bit lower on the latitude lines, say in the mid 30's? Your winter drives would be much more enjoyable.
As for the llama beans, I'd be game for a game! I think you should make some chocolate confections that look like llama beans and have them for Easter!
I've never gotten up close and personal with a llama bean. So if you have a game, I'd need some kind of reference-I'd want my guess to be as accurate as possible. LOL! How do llama beans compare to goat berries? :):)
Michelle - Optimistic??? I guess that's right, if you're not the one shoveling... LOL!
Mama Pea - Yes, indeedy. It will give me purpose! And I was guessing at 50 BEFORE the snow has melted (which covers who-knows-how-much). I think you should come down here for spring. We actually have it - it runs anywhere from two weeks to a month or two, depending on the decade.
Melanie - Of course you can have some (many)! I may put together a llama bean party and you'll be invited!
Carolyn - Hmmmm. Chiggers vs. Snow. Hmmmmm. Snow!!! :) You and Rhiannon (and Black Susan) put on your thinking caps and come up with a number. This might even make all the shoveling seem like fun!
Hoosier Girl - I would describe them as extra-large (to Jumbo) goat berries! The only thing "better" about llama beans, is that the llama usually places them in nice, easy-to-shovel piles. Having a working knowledge of both goat and sheep berries - they are EVERYWHERE!
I'm guessing 36 buckets of beans. Hopefully, spring will come to the Great Frozen North soon and help make your commute a little more pleasant. At least you have your visitors to look forward to! :)
What I mean is that I usually guess that any given task is going to take LESS than it actually does. So just in case you have that same tendency and guessed low, I made my guess high.
I am guessing that you guessed right! LOL.
Candy - From your lips to God's ear! While I love the four seasons, this one seems to be a little selfish and hang on too long! I have made a note of your entry!
I'm going to hope for the best and say 20 buckets! You sure you don't want us to guess the actual number of beans? You aren't up for counting them LOL???!!
Oh, girl, you missed your calling! You are a comedian!!! LOL!
Is it me, or do you need to get out more? :)
