Slimmie 1 - Mere Human 0

I blame it on the full moon and the fact that I came home practically radiating with bad intent. That must have been the reason he was on his guard and not curled in his self warming bed, as he always is. After 20 minutes of futilely trying to get my hands on the furry eel, I gave up and called the vet to cancel. The good news is, both  Slimmie and I got a good cardiovascular workout.

My sister and I decided to postpone our trip, given the approach of the latest winter storm. Shouldn’t it be a spring storm? Aren’t we officially over this godforsaken winter?   In any event, I am looking at today as a bonus.

There are two male cardinals duking it out, vocally, in two opposing trees.  A definite sign of spring, as is the much-welcomed red wing blackbird. I’ve brought the birdfeeders in and will only scatter seeds randomly during the day. I am sure bear activity will be up with the warming weather.    The tally on birdseed for this winter was approximately 150 pounds.   I have about 20 pounds left and when that’s gone, it’s over.

If the weather is not too awful tomorrow, I will commence the dreaded process of looking for a new car. There is not much I dislike more.  I’ve tried the online car gurus but they don’t seem to have anything registered closer than 60 miles for me. I think it’s a great service, as they break down whether the price that’s being asked is a good deal, great deal or a fair deal. I will just have to pull up my BGPs and plunge in.

Buying vehicles is much more a stab in the dark these days now that Consumer Reports can no longer obtain what the dealer pays and manufacturers back load some of the costing. I usually visit Truecar.com to get a sense of what others are paying in my area and shoot for the low end of the price range.

if Slimmie can fight you off I'd take that as a sign he is just fine.

Thanks for the reminder . . . I always forget about the bears emerging from their winter quarters this time of year. We've stopped feeding the birds in the summer time, too, because our cute little (ha!) red squirrels and their buddies the chipmunks carry away about 85% of all seeds we put out.

How, I'd like to know, did Slimmie know you wanted to take him for a visit to the vet's when you got home? (I hate it when our animals seem smarter than we are.)

Best of luck on the car search this weekend. May the gods of reliable, clean, economical, sound vehicles be with you!

Bless you and your search for a new car. Not a fun thing to do and thankful we only do it about every 10 years. Sure hope your weather moderates soon. I'd send you some of our sunshine and warmer temps if I could.

Yes, my husband and I preplan our vet visits for our cat days in advance, determining which doors need to be closed, when and where to put the carrier for ease of use without setting off the alarm bells (usually set out days before so we don't tip our hand on the exact day, how, when and where we will medicate him (yes, he needs meds for the ride in and ride home other wise he barfs and drools the whole trip, and so on and so on and so on!!! It is such chore.

I knew it wouldn't be pretty. Car shopping is the pits. I still think there is an undercurrent of patronizing attitude regarding female purchasers.

I'm dreading the car buying process for you Susan. I've only been through it three times but I have to say the last time I nearly plotzed. Why is the car salesman (never met a woman) so TYPICAL??? "Oh, I'd put my daughter in this car" lol...one of them actually said that to me and on the way off the lot, it stalled!!! Hee hee...you can't believe a word they say. When Alex and I got the SUV in 2013, we did a lot of research first and tried to hurry up the salesman and stick to our guns. It was still a 3 hour drama though. Good luck with that. Oh Slimmie...

Oh man, I'm with Susan, salesmen ! ! when I was looking for a car after divorce, one salesmans first comment was....What colour do you want ?...like that was my top priority. I wanted to just smack him.
Ended up buying a 5 year old Toyota and keeping it for 15 years. ..Now I have another.
I hope you find a good one.

When I was out weeding one day, there was a bird with a silver under belly that was making the worst bird noise ever. It drove me nuts, and it circled over me the entire time. I have no idea what kind it was, but I've never heard such an annoying sound. Most days I hear nice bird sounds. Have fun car shopping. We are still truck shopping.
