Playing catch-up.

With so much of my weekends being spent off-farm, I am having to scramble during the week.  This is not helped by the shortening of daylight.  And the little waves of panic that are lapping around my consciousness, telling me winter is on the way.  I am my own worst enemy.

After a very bumpy start, my summer squash is actually producing.  Just in time for powdery mildew.  I am so thankful to have even a few of them, I don't even care.  Well, I do, but I don't have time to do much about it.  While wandering by the cucumber trellis, I spotted quite a few good-sized cukes, so those went in the basket, too.  Tomatoes are starting - finally - to ripen, but the plants look like hell.  I just hope they last long enough to keep the crop going.

I love these round zucchinis!
I've got popcorn ears growing!  I literally jumped up and down when I saw the tell-tale silk peeking out, here and there on the stalks.  And these are some stalks - they are well over 7 feet tall.  I believe I will give them an entire bed of their own next year.  You know, in my quest to downsize my garden...

This past Sunday, after dithering around for weeks, I finally made a new clothespin bag.  For years, I have been using a system that does not work.  For YEARS.  Talk about slow on the uptake.  I have a seersucker (remember that stuff?) sleeveless granny top - sort of a cross between a short muu-muu and an apron - that I have been using as a wearable clothespin holder.  This means stuffing the clothespins in both pockets, reaching down, then up, down, then up and then having to reach across and down when I run out of pins in one pocket.  Awkward, to say the least.

My new bag:

And, to close today's post, a dose of cuteness.

I have been trying to get a pic of all three of them - I've come close, but no cigar.  Since Pepper is never further than 10 inches away from me, it's easy to take his picture.  Crouching waaaay down.

Love the new clothespin bag. I REALLY need to replace mine--it's reached the point of being "offensive".
And Cute is good anytime---especially at the finale!
Have a wonderful busy day!

My squash is covered in squash bugs, but they are still producing regardless. I'm marinating zucchini, peppers and onion to can my first zucchini salsa tomorrow.

Sue - There were so many options on line that my vision blurred. I just picked out the easiest one that used what I had. Hope you're well up there on the sub-Tundra!

Kristina - My squash plants were stunted from the start - that squash-in-a-bag did NOT work for me. I hope that they manage to put out a few more before keeling over.

I hate the panicky feeling. Is it a woman of the soil thing or what? And good luck with that downsizing plan LOL.

Oh, golly-gee-whiskers, do I ever need to make a clothespin bag like yours! My clothespins are in a medium-sized wicker basket and to keep them handy, I stand in front of the basket and clip as many as I possibly can to my clothing. You know, down the front of the placket if I have a shirt on, on the bottom hem and around the scoop neck if wearing a tank top. I use all that I have clipped to my clothes and then have to go back to the basket for a refill. Is that a bad method, or what? Do I need to make a bag like yours, or what? Geesh.

Love that little dust mop of a Pepper!

Susan,

Shhhhh.......don't mention winter!!!!
It's to soon for winter.

Love the clothespin bag, you did a great job :-)

I wish my squash was at the size to harvest, it's only about 2 inches in size.
Those are some really nice looking cucumbers, do you have plans for them?

Susan - It must be, because the only people I know who are afflicted are those of us who garden or farm. Yes, I am such a failure at downsizing... :)

Mama Pea - Oh, my. Your system is even more complicated than mine! I bet you haven't made a clothespin bag because you're too busy making things for other people...

That is such a great description of the little guy - he's so low to the ground that he DOES tend to dust for me!

Sandy - Sorry! I am enjoy this weather and my little squash crop! I love this round squash (thanks to Candy C for introducing me to them) for stuffing and baking. I have big plans for this weekend. That involve lots of meals of stuffed squash.
