The Intrepid Trio - Lovey's Foster Mom is center. |
After quite a bit of excitement - it does take a while to remove dogs from their crates, put leashes on, walk them, water them and feed them - the human group straggled in to tuck into fruit salad, scrambled eggs and bacon, and to enjoy a potty break themselves. I wanted every single dog in the van -- there are some very lucky families up here.
She is amazingly like Scrappy - but about a third smaller. Waiting for Amy to come back. :( |
Scrappy and Lovey did some snarling/snapping posturing - (Watch it, Buddy!) - then settled down. Scrappy managed to mark his territory through three rooms.....thank goD for tiled floors. Lovey turned out to be a diminutive version of Scrappy - she is adorable. Understandably confused and worried, she paced most of the rest of the day, finally crashing around 8, snuggled tightly against me on the couch, snoring loudly. I am putty in her paws.
Uneasy truce - still looking for Amy. Scrappy's look says it all. |

Congrats :-)
She looks wonderful...Scrappy looks resigned! It must be hard for these dogs to go from the one family to the next but I know you will win her heart like she has won yours in no time at all! Bless you!
lovey is very lucky she found her way to you!
Welcome, Lovey! I hope you are soon a happy family, and that she is not a one-woman dog.
TCSL - Thank you!
Fiona - Yes, Scrappy is feeling a little needy right now. Even though he is cranky about the new kid, he is gentle about it.
Michelle - I think that she will bond with me. She likes to drink her water, then race up and give me a big, sloppy kiss. Sweet!
Congratulations. A bit bewildering for both dogs.I hope they soon start having fun together.
How could Lovey not love living with you and all the rest of the critters? Once she realizes she's home to stay (and settles into experiencing her new, wonderful life), all will be well. From the pictures, she and Scrappy look enough alike to be bookends! Keep us all updated, please!
Lots of tlc and they'll be fine :) Congrats!
She lives up to her name - congratulations!
She certainly lives up to her name - congratulations!
Congratulations, I am glad everything finally came together for you. She looks like she will be right at home soon.
Susan,
Congratulations you have your dog!!!! Give Lovey some time and before you know it she will be ruling the roost. Scrappy and Lovey will soon be best of friends, you won't be able to separate the two of them.
Scrappy is just making sure Lovey knows who's the boss :-)
I'm happy for you and the dog. She's beautiful. It always takes them some time to adjust but she will be soon part of your pack. I ended up keeping the last one I fostered (I have 3 dogs) because she was 10 and it took her a couple of weeks to settle in and feel comfortable. For this reason and because of her age I kept her. She's the greatest dog. Lovey will get very attached to you.
I have a question: Did Scrappy and Lovey met on neutral grounds or did Lovey just walked into your house?
All the best,
Marie
Jaz - It always amazes me how wonderful (and far-reaching) the Internet can be.
Susan - I'll say! They have started playing and it's a hoot to watch. Scrappy doesn't quite know what to do with this little bundle of action.
Mama Pea - I think she will love it, once she is feeling more secure. I have to get used to puppy energy again - it's been eons! More pictures to come, although Lovey will be the blur in the photo...
LHIB - Thank you! I'm shoveling on the love in both directions!
Jenyfer, she sure does. She is a sweet, soft little lovey.
DD - She's starting to get used to the routine. She's a smart little girl, so it won't take long.
Sandy - You are so right. It's very important to Scrappy to be the boss - this is why Lovey is so perfect. When they play, she just keeps a (very) low profile and flips over to show him he's the king!
Marie - Thank you for commenting! We took them for a walk, which worked out very well. There was some growling, snarling, mouthing behavior, but that fell away pretty quickly, and they were trotting down the road together, noses to the ground. What a great thing for your 10 y/o foster. It does take the older ones longer to get situated. Except for Scrappy, who walked in the door and took charge. :)
I volunteered at a no-kill rescue group for years and kept bringing them home. For several years, we had five dogs. Now we're down to 4. I want them all, too. :o)
